Avalon High Press Release

Gregg Sulkin in a DCOM? At least it keeps him away from Selena. :)

LEGEND LIVES ON AT AVALON HIGH

BRITT ROBERTSON AND GREGG SULKIN STAR IN
DISNEY CHANNEL'S ORIGINAL MOVIE "AVALON HIGH,"
A MODERN DAY TWIST ON CAMELOT,
PREMIERING FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12

"Avalon High," a new Disney Channel Original Movie that puts a contemporary twist on Arthurian legend, premieres FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 12 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel and Disney Mobile for Sprint TV, MobiTV and Flo TV. Starring Britt Robertson ("Life Unexpected") and Gregg Sulkin ("Wizards of Waverly Place," Disney Channel UK's "As the Bell Rings"), the movie is based upon the award-winning novel by best-selling author Meg Cabot ("The Princess Diaries"). It follows Allie, a transfer student to Avalon High, who discovers that her new classmates are reincarnations of King Arthur and his Court.

Beginning Friday, October 15, DisneyChannel.com invites users to participate in a weekly "Trivia Challenge" on Arthurian legend. Each week a new set of questions will be released leading up to the premiere. Players must complete all five weeks of trivia to earn virtual gems that will unlock a mystery game.

An exclusive preview of "Avalon High" will be available beginning Friday, November 5, on Disney Channel on Demand to a variety of affiliates including Cablevision, Time Warner and Verizon FiOS TV customers.

In "Avalon High," Allie Pennington is ecstatic when her parents, traveling professors, tell her she will be staying at Avalon High until she graduates. She can finally join the track team, make new friends and be a normal high school student. But shortly after arriving, Allie discovers that something strange may be afoot. While researching a term paper on King Arthur's legacy, she begins to notice some interesting parallels between the past and the present – from handsome quarterback Will, his cheerleader girlfriend, Jen, and their best friend, Lance, to Will's brooding step-brother, Marco, a quirky kid named Miles and football players who act like knights of the roundtable. The deeper Allie searches, the more convinced she is that her school is a contemporary Camelot, and it's up to her to solve the mystery of Avalon High before notorious traitor Mordred wins again.

The movie stars Britt Robertson as Allie Pennington, Gregg Sulkin as Will Wagner, Joey Pollari (Disney XD's "Skyrunners") as Miles, Devon Graye ("Dexter") as Marco, Molly Quinn ("Castle") as Jen, Chris Tavarez ("Big Momma's House 2") as Lance, Don Lake ("The Bonnie Hunt Show") as Allie's Dad and Steve Valentine ("I'm In The Band," "Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie," "Crossing Jordan") as Mr. Moore.

The teleplay, based upon the book written by Meg Cabot, was written by Julie Sherman Wolfe ("JONAS," "Phil of the Future") and Amy Talkington ("Confessions"). "Avalon High" was directed and co-produced by Stuart Gillard (Disney Channel's "Hatching Pete," "90210"); executive produced by Michael Jaffe ("The Informant!") and Howard Braunstein ("The Informant!") and produced by Janine Dickins ("Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior," "Power Rangers Operation Overdrive"). "Avalon High" is a production of Sudden Motion Productions, Inc. and Ranger Productions Ltd.

Disney Reports 40% Jump In 3Q Profit On Hit Movies

I meant to post this when it was published last month. Sorry. :)

Walt Disney Co.'s (DIS) fiscal third-quarter earnings jumped 40% because of deferred revenue at ESPN and hit movies like "Toy Story 3," although its domestic theme parks continued to struggle.

Nonetheless, shares of media giant climbed 1.1% after-hours to $35.68 as the company's results beat analysts' views. Disney's stock had risen 9.4% this year, better than the broader market.

In the most recent period, the film and TV production studio swung to a profit as revenue jumped 30% on the strong response to "Toy Story 3," as well as "Alice in Wonderland" and "Iron Man 2." The results were a bit stronger than expected, said Alan Gould, analyst with Evercore Partners.

Disney's networks division, the company's largest, posted a 19% rise in revenue and a 43% jump in profit, driven by deferred revenue at ESPN and, to a lesser extent, the Disney Channel. Broadcasting, which includes ABC, posted modest 4% and 2% increases in revenue and earnings, respectively.

Media companies have been reporting improvement in the advertising spending after the recession caused a slump in ad dollars. On the company's conference call, Disney Chief Financial Officer Jay Rasulo said advertising is strong, but visibility is "somewhat limited"

Disney's theme parks struggled in the most recent period, hurt by decreases at its domestic parks and Disney Cruise Line. Overall, revenue rose 3% thanks to higher guest spending, but operating income fell 8% because of increased costs and lower attendance and hotel occupancy.

Disney said unfavorable timing of the Easter holiday hurt attendance. However, results at the international parks improved, not only because of a real estate sale but also on better guest spending, hotel occupancy and attendance at Disneyland Paris.

Gould noted that the company, in a display of confidence, recently raised prices at its parks division. The company used discounts to boost attendance during the recession, but executives have said Disney has been reining them in since the beginning of the year, aiming for prices to return to normal next year.

In the current fourth quarter, Disney's hotel bookings are down 9% from a year ago.

For the third quarter ended July 3, the company posted a profit of $1.33 billion, or 67 cents a share, from $954 million, or 51 cents a share, a year earlier. Both periods included restructuring and impairment charges, while the most recent period also included a gain on the sale of the Power Rangers franchise, which canceled out the charges in the most recent results.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters predicted earnings of 58 cents a share Gould noted that Disney's EPS results were boosted by about 7.5 cents a share from roughly $230 million more in deferred revenue at ESPN than analysts were expecting. He said that should be factored out when comparing the company's results to Wall Street estimates.

Revenue increased 16% to $10 billion, above the average analyst estimate of $9.38 billion.

The buddy comedy "Shake It Up," television's first dance-driven sitcom, from veteran producers Chris Thompson ("Laverne & Shirley," "Bosom Buddies") and Rob Lotterstein ("The War at Home," "Ellen"), premieres SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 7 (8:30 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney Channel. The series stars 13-year-old Bella Thorne and 14-year-old Zendaya as best friends CeCe and Rocky, whose dreams of becoming professional dancers are realized when they land roles as background dancers on the most popular teen dance show, "Shake It Up, Chicago!"

While the best friends pop, lock and learn the challenging contemporary moves for each week's dance show, they revel in their newfound status, but also quickly learn they'll need more than fancy footwork to match wits with the show's other dancers, notably the highly competitive siblings, Gunther and Tinka. At the same time, with their best friend Deuce and Rocky's brother Ty, they also must quick step through the complex twists and turns of an average big city high school, as well as Windy City family life, including their obligation to babysit CeCe's mischievous younger brother, Flynn.

Throughout the series premiere day, the entire cast will take viewers behind the scenes on the set to introduce the characters and see the dance moves as they're choreographed.

The schedule is as follows:

Friday, October 15

The series was created by Chris Thompson and is executive-produced by Thompson and Rob Lotterstein. "Shake It Up" is a production of It's a Laugh Productions, Inc.

I like how they are already referring to Bella and Zendaya as "Teen Stars." These girls are gonna be big. ;)

One final note, most of you know about our partnered Shake it Up Fansite, but we now have a Bella Thorne Fansite too! Be sure to check them out. :)

Hannah Montana Forever Soundtrack

It looks like Disney has finalized the track listing for the last Hannah Montana soundtrack.  It is set to be released on October 19, 2010. You can preorder your copy on Amazon now. :)

Disney's official press release follows:

New music from Disney's "Hannah Montana," the global smash hit TV series that became the
biggest, fastest success the pop album charts have seen in years -- with #1 soundtracks and combined sales of over 12 million CDs to-date -- will be available in the fourth season soundtrack Hannah Montana Forever -- featuring actress and pop superstar Miley Cyrus collaborating with Iyaz, Sheryl Crow and Billy Ray Cyrus. The album will be available in stores and at online retailers October 19 on Walt Disney Records.

The Hannah Montana Forever soundtrack will have its broadcast debut on Radio Disney's Planet Premiere feature with host Ernie D on Sunday, October 17 (7:00 p.m., ET/ 4:00 p.m., PT) with a rebroadcast on Monday, October 18 (12:00 p.m., ET/ 9:00 a.m., PT). Two tracks, "Are You Ready" and "Ordinary Girl," have already hit the Top 5 on Radio Disney's Top 30 Countdown this summer. Fans can also sneak preview the album online at RadioDisney.com for a limited time, beginning October 16.

The album covers much musical ground, from intimate ballads to straight-up high-voltage pop. "Gonna Get This" is a synth-laden pop duet between Miley and the Caribbean-based singer Iyaz, while the harmony-rich "Need a Little Love" pairs Miley with legendary singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow. Miley and her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, sing together the ballad "Love That Lets Go," a fitting tribute to their close relationship, both on screen and off. The sentiment continues on "Been Here All Along" and the wistful farewell, "I'll Always Remember You." But the album kicks into high gear with upbeat rockers like "Kiss It Goodbye," "I'm Still Good," and the club anthem "Are You Ready." The soulful "Ordinary Girl," "Que Sera" and the explosive pop of "Barefoot Cinderella" round out the album's 11 tracks.

The accomplished songwriters who contributed to the soundtrack include: Toby Gad (Beyonce, Fergie, Alicia Keys), "Glee's" Adam Anders ("Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," "Hannah Montana The Movie," "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"), Jamie Houston ("Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," "High School Musical," Miley Cyrus, Sheryl Crow, Kid Rock), Mitch Allan (produced and co-wrote with Jessi Alexander "I'll Always Remember You," Chris Daughtry, Faith Hill, "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," "StarStruck"), Jessi Alexander ("The Climb," Toby Keith, Trisha Yearwood), Joacim Persson and Niclas Molinder ("JONAS L.A.," "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," "Cheetah Girls One World," Charice, Ashley Tisdale) and with songs featured in all four "Hannah" seasons, Jeannie Lurie ("Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," "StarStruck").

Songs included on Hannah Montana Forever are:
"Gonna Get This" featuring Iyaz
"Que Sera"
"Ordinary Girl"
"Kiss It Goodbye"
"I'll Always Remember You"
"Need a Little Love" featuring Sheryl Crow
"Are You Ready"
"Love That Lets Go" featuring Billy Ray Cyrus
"I'm Still Good"
"Been Here All Along"
"Barefoot Cinderella"

The hit Disney Channel series "Hannah Montana" is a global triumph, reaching over 266 million unduplicated viewers worldwide, in over 150 countries and in 30 different languages. Delivering at record levels after more than four years on TV, "Hannah Montana" has grown its audience in each of its four years on air, with its fourth season pacing at record levels in Total Viewers (5.4 million), Kids 6-11 (2.1 million) and Tweens 9-14 (2.0 million).

Cyrus is the youngest ever recording artist with four #1 albums in less than three years. Her solo albums on Hollywood Records include the #1 debut album Breakout, Time of Our Lives EP featuring the smash hit single "Party in the USA," and her most recent release Can't Be Tamed. She is currently filming the independent feature "LOL" opposite Demi Moore.
