No big surprise here, Disney has renewed their consistantly highest rated show Shake It Up for a third season.

What follows is Disney’s official press release: big on fluff, short on details:
DISNEY CHANNEL ORDERS THIRD SEASON OF TOP RATED,DANCE-DRIVEN SERIES “SHAKE IT UP”
— 90-minute Event Telecast, “Shake It Up: Made in Japan,” to Premiere In August –
Disney Channel has ordered a third season of the dance-driven buddy comedy “Shake It Up,” it was announced today by Adam Bonnett, Senior Vice President, Original Programming, Disney Channels Worldwide. “Shake It Up” premiered in November 2010, ranked as the #1 series of 2011 among Tweens 9-14 and for second quarter 2012-to-date, is the #1 TV series among Kids 2-11 (2.0 million/4.9 rating) and Kids 6-11 (1.6 million/6.7 rating) [Source: NTI, U.S. ratings, most current, as dated]. Production on the third season will begin this summer.
The series inspired Disney Channel’s first-ever talent competition exclusively for kids and tweens, “Make Your Mark: Ultimate Dance Off – Shake It Up Edition,” which reached 12 million total viewers and gave a dance troupe, winners among the nearly 30,000 video submissions, a chance to dance in an episode of “Shake It Up.” Digital extensions were presented at DisneyChannel.com (7.5 million visits) with instructional dance videos (over 68 million video starts).
Walt Disney Records released the Shake It Up: Live 2 Dance soundtrack, featuring songs from and inspired by the series. It debuted at #17 on the Billboard 200 in March 2012 and fan-favorites “TTYLXOX” by Bella Thorne and “Something to Dance For” by Zendaya climbed Radio Disney’s Top 30, with “TTYLXOX” hitting the #1 spot. The music video for “Something to Dance For/TTYLXOX (Mash Up)” generated more than 6 million hits on VEVO.
“Shake It Up” has also inspired tween apparel including dancewear from Ivivva and a fast-selling D-Signed line at Target, footwear at Payless and Hallmark greeting cards which are popular among kids and tweens. Consumer electronics including headphones and stereos will debut in stores this summer.
In the series, best friends CeCe and Rocky are living their dreams as dancers on the hit show “Shake It Up, Chicago!” Season three will see new dances and songs, and expand on the friendship and aspirations of CeCe and Rocky both at home and in school.
In “Shake It Up: Made In Japan,” a 90-minute programming event premiering this summer, the gang will head to Tokyo after Rocky and CeCe win a chance to star in a dance video game. New songs and dances, wild new fashions, androids and performances by the world famous Blue Man Group highlight the episode. A sneak peek of “Shake It Up: Made In Japan” will air during the Disney Channel Original Movie, “Let It Shine” on June 15.
Executive produced by Rob Lotterstein (“The War at Home,” “Ellen”) and Eileen Conn (“Mad About You,” “Just Shoot Me!”), “Shake It Up” stars Zendaya and Bella Thorne as Rocky Blue and CeCe Jones, Davis Cleveland as Flynn Jones, Roshon Fegan as Ty Blue, Adam Irigoyen as Deuce Martinez and Caroline Sunshine as Tinka Hessenheffer. Recurring are R. Brandon Johnson as Gary Wilde and Anita Barone as Georgia Jones.
New episodes of “Shake It Up” air Sundays at 8:30 p.m., ET/PT on Disney Channel. The series is a production of It’s A Laugh Productions, Inc. It carries a TV-G parental guideline.

Awesome! 😀
I just noticed that Kenton Duty (Gunther) isn’t listed with the rest of the cast. I really wouldn’t care as long as Tinka stays but it’s probably an oversight.

no surprise here – the girls are cute and funny as well. the stories are interesting and the cast chemistry is awesome, even with the secondary characters.
Bella Thorne and Caroline Sunshine are keepers.
Zendaya should go!
Jay, *high five*
No way!! She should stay definitely!:)

Jay,
In addition to being adorable Zendaya is the best actress, most experienced dancer (she’s been dancing her whole life while Bella only started dancing for the show) and she’s the best singer. So why do you think she should go? Is it because she’s part African American? I certainly hope that is NOT the reason because we don’t need a racist around here.
In an unrelated but important note poweranimals found out and posted to the Debby forum that Kenton Duty will be leaving “Shake it Up” after this season. He will return for guest appearances but he will no longer be a regular on the show. 🙁
I think they’re overrated, their friendship is most definitely scripted and I honestly think that Disney is only keeping them to have more “new” shows. I don’t hate either of them but you can just taste the awkward tension around them at times and I feel like they’re as fake as can get….
Disney is really working overtime to turn redheaded youngster Bella Thorne into the next Miley Cyrus, the next starlet they can hang a billion dollar media and merchandising empire around, even if it means turning the high school freshman into a 30-something looking professional escort. It’s the way of the world.
Bella is showing up to more events than even the Kardashians these days, over the weekend featured at the Teen Choice Awards, and also serving as the hostess for the DoSomething.org promotional event sponsored by Staples. Bella wasn’t just dressed for the event, the teeny bopper was transformed into a mature starlet which I’m guessing is a rather calculated attempt by her handlers to make people think she is older than her young years. Either way, this girl is going places (and those places someday are going to be quite scandalous). Enjoy.
it’s true you see more pics of her lately than Zendaya
even paparazzi are taking more pics of Bella .
Anyone know when the new season comes to the Family Channel up here in Canada?
Arwin, give it a rest. There is nothing here to suggest racism except you. Please, it’s Disney and it’s 2012.
Did u kno bella had 0 ecpirence with dance? she took lots of dance classes once she found out she was on the show! i think she sucka and she sould leave. zendaya is amazing!!! she has been dancing since she was little and has an amazing spirit. on the audition to the dance school episode thing… when they danced to zendayas song she was amazing and when bella kicked she looked like her foot threw up.
get rid of bella and keep zendaya. Im not tryin to be rude here people but she sucks…bottom line!
sorry for errors im on my phone
Bella only has more publicity because they want to turn her into a miley cyrus copycat. bella sucks. team zendaya
To everyone why do you care so much about the actors just sit back and enjoy the show. There is a reason they picked them to be up there. And even if Bella is going to be the new Miley Cyrus who cares. For real get some life’s and go live them stop the hating and go do something for your selfs.
Ok so I agree that Bella and zendayas friendship is a lot less advanced than Disney channel is letting on. I don’tt; however, think that either zendaya OR bells should be cut. And Gunther will be dearly missed :.(
UGGGH HAVE YOU HEARD BELLA SING? sHE RAPS BECAUSE SHE BAD SINGR ZENDAY GOOD THO
I personally don’t like how Disney makes cece look like a really stupid and let’s rocky make fun of her for that a lot. It seems that rocky always gets the upper hand in most episodes, which I don’t like. I mean ilike cece and rocky both, and its not their fault. I just think that Disney should do a better job of demoting bullying instead of sneaking it into most of the plot line.
HalleHoran, that’s a good point. Rocky’s obviously not trying to put Cece down but her comments aren’t always constructive either.
I whatch this show every day! Best ever. I love how the cast are so relatable, along with them being amazing actors, singers and dancers! Personally, I’m with zendaya for favorites.
