New Disney Series: Austin & Ally

Disney Channel has officially picked up the new series Austin & Ally, staring Laura Marano. We told you about the pilot back in January, but it’s official now. It should be interesting!

DISNEY CHANNEL ANNOUNCES START OF PRODUCTION ON
NEW LIVE-ACTION COMEDY SERIES, “AUSTIN & ALLY”

Disney Channel has ordered “Austin & Ally,” an original, live-action comedy series chronicling the friendship of an unlikely duo whose lives unexpectedly enliven when one becomes an overnight Internet musical sensation. The multi-camera series will begin production in Hollywood this summer for a scheduled late 2011 premiere on Disney Channel.
Starring are newcomer Ross Lynch as Austin, Laura Marano (“Without a Trace,” “Back to You”) as Ally, Raini Rodriguez (Disney’s “Prom,” “I’m in the Band”) as Trish and Calum Worthy (“Psych,” “Good Luck Charlie”) as Dez.

The series follows the partnership between polar opposites — Austin, an extroverted musician/singer, and Ally, a brilliant yet shy songwriter — and their two best friends, Trish and Dez. Unbeknownst to Ally, Austin and Dez “borrow” one of her songs, record it, create a video and post it on the Internet, after which it and Austin become a local sensation. When Trish convinces Ally to tell the world she wrote the song, Austin pleads with her to write another hit for him. Instead, the two combine their talents to create a true musical tour-de-force.
“Austin & Ally” was created and is executive-produced by Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert (“Good Burger,” “Kenan & Kel,” Disney Channel’s “Sonny With A Chance” and “JONAS”). The pilot was directed by Shelley Jensen (“Good Luck Charlie,” “Shake It Up”).

  1. I may be reaching here, but this looks like a mishmash of Nickelodeon’s iCarly and Victorious. The overnight Internet sensation sounds similar to iCarly. The singer/musician sounds like Victoria Justice’s character in Victorious, and the songwriter sounds like Leon Thomas III character in Victorious.
    Despite my observation, I’ll still watch it. I get the idea that it could be pretty good.

  4. so i read somewhere that they are going to have Ally and Austin dating. I wonder if their gonna start off dating, which i highly doubt, or if it’s gonna be a growing thing like Stella and Joe in JONAS.?

  6. The main star of this show, Laura Marano, used to be on “Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?” a few years back. Just wanted to share this info, for anyone that cares.

  8. I LOVE the show Austin and ally, it is SO funny!!! And I love Ross the best , he is so good at singing and playing guitar!!! Plus he is really cute!

  12. I love how in the Secrets And Songbooks episode she gets the doll and kisses it. LOL this show is REALLY good. Its better than jessie and all my other favorite shows.

  14. I think Laura is cute and there is definitely something endearing about her in general, but sometimes her acting delivery is meh… I’m not trying to badmouth her. I really DO hope to see her succeed. I’d just like to see her work on her chops a little more. The red-headed dude on that show straight gets on my nerves (which means he’s doing a good job, cause that’s the point of his character). I’m sure he’s probably not annoying in real life. The other two seem to pull their weight. All in all, the show’s not too bad.
