JONAS Renewed for Season Two

In all honesty, I wasn't sure if they where going to renew the show or not. I expected runaway ratings when the show premiered, and instead ratings have been flat. That plus the fact that they've aired nearly the entire first season without announcing the renewal (until now) made me wonder if disney was second guessing themselves. Anyway, now we know that Disney has in fact renewed JONAS for a second season. I wonder if Rich Ross leaving DC and moving over to Features had any impact on this decision. Anyway, what follows is the official Disney Press Release. Take note of how little they actually talk about the show and instead talk about the JoBros music. they barely even mention Chelsea and Nicole.
"JONAS," THE HIT COMEDY SERIES STARRING THE MULTI-PLATINUM AND MULTI-PLATFORM JONAS BROTHERS, PICKED UP FOR SEASON TWO ON DISNEY CHANNEL -- "Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream," a Popular Short-form Series, Also Picked Up for Season Two, Begins Production in Europe -- Disney Channel has picked up Season Two of the hit comedy series "JONAS," starring the multi-platinum recording artists Jonas Brothers plus popular actresses Chelsea Staub and Nicole Anderson. Two new and notable producers, Lester Lewis ("The Office," "The Larry Sanders Show") and Paul Hoen (director and co-producer of "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam," DGA Award-winning director of "Jump In!," and "The Cheetah Girls One World," among others), have been named executive producers of the series. Season two of "JONAS" is scheduled to begin production in Hollywood in February for debut in mid-2010 on Disney Channel, DisneyChannel.com, mobile and VOD platforms. The announcement was made today by Gary Marsh, president, entertainment, Disney Channels Worldwide. (Click here for images from "JONAS" or visit www.disneychannelmedianet.com. Registration required.) This month, while on the European leg of their hugely successful Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009 (produced by Live Nation), Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas also began production on Season Two of their popular short-form reality series, "Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream," for premiere in early 2010. It will be followed by the highly anticipated Disney Channel Original Movie "Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam" in summer. Marsh said, "We couldn't ask for a more collaborative or creative partnership than we have with the Jonas Brothers – and the success of our first season of 'JONAS' speaks for itself. As we build on that success in a second season, we are thrilled to add the extraordinary creative talents of Lester Lewis and Paul Hoen to the producing team." Regarding the appeal of a second season of "Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream," Marsh continued, "We can deliver something to our viewers that no one else can – exclusive, behind-the-scenes access to the real life adventures of one of the superstar bands of our time. That's exactly the kind of unique experience our viewers have come to expect from Disney Channel." Michael Rapino, President and Chief Executive Officer of Live Nation, the band's global touring partner, said, "Two years ago we joined forces with the Jonas Brothers' team when the band was performing small concerts in our House of Blues clubs. Over the last two years they have developed into the superstars they are today, playing in sold out arenas and stadiums throughout the world." He continued, "Today they are a true global touring powerhouse, just won Billboard Magazine's Choice Tour Award for 2009, and stand among the top grossing artists of the year." In its primary timeslot (Sunday, 8:30 p.m.), "JONAS" ranks as TV's #1 program among Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14 and cable TV's #1 program in Total Viewers (averaging 3.4 million viewers). For all of 2009, "JONAS" is #8 among all TV series in Kids 6-11 and on cable TV among Tweens. In its first season, the series also won a Teen Choice Award in the Choice TV Breakout Series category. In 2008 "Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream" reached over 85 million unique Total Viewers, and 17 million Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14. The success of their TV ventures is among a notable list of Jonas Brothers milestones over the past year including: • A three-continent concert tour, "Jonas Brothers World Tour 2009," that sold 1.5 million arena tickets and ranks among the year's top grossing tours. Last week at the Billboard Touring Awards, Jonas Brothers won the 2009 Eventful Fans' Choice Award for the best concert tour of the year • A #1 album debut, "Lines, Vines and Trying Times," one of 2009's top album debuts • Three #1 hit singles and five Top 10 songs on Radio Disney's listener-generated Top 30 • #3 highest-grossing 3D concert film of all time, "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" • The launch of a joint venture record label with Disney Music Group • A Grammy Award nomination • New York Times best-selling book, "Burning Up: On Tour with the Jonas Brothers" In addition, Jonas Brothers have amassed nearly four million fans on Facebook, MySpace and Say Now and are the #1 most-subscribed music channel and the #5 channel overall on YouTube. The new season of "JONAS" follows the three hardest working brothers in show business, Kevin, Joe and Nick Lucas, as they set out on a summer adventure they will never forget. Along with their friend and chief of security Big Rob (played by Jonas Brothers' real-life chief of security Rob Feggans, a familiar face to Jonas Brothers fans) the brothers pack up from their converted New Jersey firehouse home and head to Los Angeles. What starts out as a relaxing vacation turns into three life-changing opportunities for the boys: Joe pursues a prized role in a big Hollywood film, Kevin gets to indulge his newfound passion for the movie business by shadowing a famous director, and Nick partners with an eccentric record producer to work on the next JONAS album (when he isn't busy with his latest passion...surfing). Their best friend, Stella Malone, is along for the ride, staying with her aunt and interning in the wardrobe department on the set of Joe's movie. Documenting the experience is their friend and uber-Jonas fan, Macy Misa, who keeps all the fans up to date with her Jonas blog.

Boo from David Henrie

Twitter has been buzzing with discussion of "Boo" a short film by David Henrie and his cousin Johnny Salvatore.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZADArTMTqW8

This twist on the classic Halloween "creepy guy kills teens" theme stars Samantha Droke, Tiffany Thornton, Brandon Mychal Smith, Francia Raisa, Chris Hunter, Allen Evangelista, and Mark Hapka. David writes: "No production or financing, just a camera with a light on top of it and talented actors that can improv! We hope to inspire you to get out there and make something yourself, the internet is where entertainment is headed, make your own future."

Tiffany Thornton in BOO

Now, I'll watch anything that has Tiffany Thornton in it, but I have to say that this was very well done. David's no expert director, but he knows a thing or two about how to shoot a story and it shows.

New Disney Animated Series: Fish Hooks

Disney has begun production on a new animated series that revolves around the lives of fish that attend school in the middle of a large pet store fish tank. The idea, of course, is to explore the "traditional teen issues" in a way that hasn't been done before. Wait, isn't there a popular animated show about sea creatures on Nickelodeon? Sponge something? Oh wait, those are ocean dwellers, never mind. I'll certainly give it a fair shake when it premieres in 2010. Chelsea Staub is excited to be voicing "an overly dramatic goldfish!" and that's more than enough to make me interested. :) What follows is the official Disney press release:
Production has begun on "Fish Hooks" (working title), an animated comedy series centered around three aquatic friends in a fish tank, produced using an innovative mixture of 2-D digital animation and photo collage by Disney Television Animation for Disney Channels Worldwide. "Fish Hooks" is scheduled to premiere Fall 2010. The announcement was made today by Gary Marsh, President, Entertainment, Disney Channels Worldwide. "The 'Fish Hooks' team has created one of the most original, inventive animated series on television – bringing an ingenious twist to the classic archetypes of high school life (where else but in the world of a high school fish tank would you find characters named Piranica, Clamantha or Jocktopus?)," said Marsh. The 21-episode series follows Milo, Oscar and Bea, three friends and neighbors who attend Freshwater High, a school submerged in a giant fish tank in the center of a local pet store. Together they experience the typical challenges and triumphs of tween life, like friendship, dating and sports, along with more atypical teen issues like giant lobster attacks and school field trips to the hamster cages. The series was created by children's book illustrator Noah Z. Jones, developed for television by Alex Hirsch ("The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack") and Bill Reiss ("Chowder"), executive-produced by Adam Burton ("The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy") and co-executive produced by Noah Z. Jones. Carl Greenblatt ("Chowder") and Bill Reiss will direct. "Fish Hooks" features a talented voice cast including Kyle Massey ("Cory in the House") as Milo, an adventurous party guy; Chelsea Staub ("JONAS") as Bea, an overly dramatic goldfish; and Justin Roiland ("The Sarah Silverman Program") as Oscar, Milo's neurotic brother.

Suite Life on Deck Renewed

I hope Dylan and Cole aren't feeling typecast! This will make the 7th season for their characters! I still liked the original series better (mostly 'cause it had Ashley Tisdale) but the spin off is also very well done, and it deserves to continue. And I certainly won't complain about seeing more of Debby Ryan. ;) Speaking of Debby, here's a video of Debby jumping on the trampoline during Mattel's 10th Anual Party on the Pier this past Saturday at the Pacific Park in Santa Monica.

My fellow Selena fans, I thought you would all would like to know that Disney has extended the WOWP Season 3 order which will bring the series to 86 episodes. Which is good, but we're gonna have to make sure that there's a season four of at least 14 episodes. That's so raven made it to 100, and Wizards deserves nothing less! Disney press release follows:

A Magical Afternoon (at the D23 Expo)

Now, if you remember I wrote a post about the Wizards Pannel at the D23 Expo last month. It was mostly an excuse to post a couple pics I took of Selena and a video or two from the event.

D23 Expo Wizards of Waverly Place

But now I've found a very good review of the event from the Official D23 website, and I wanted to share it with you all. :)
The D23 Arena was THE place to be Sunday afternoon at the Expo for any Disney Channel fan. From the moment the cast of Wizards of Waverly Place entered the room for their panel, they instantly had the crowd under their spell! But before the main event began, there was a fashion show of the hot new clothing line inspired by the series (available soon in stores like Sears, Wal-Mart and JC Penny) and a screening of the upcoming Wizards season premiere. Then it was time for the real fun to begin. Fresh off their Emmy win the night before for Outstanding Children's Program, Selena Gomez, David Henrie, Jake T. Austin, Jennifer Stone and Maria Canals-Barrera, along with executive producers Peter Murrieta and Todd Greenwald came on stage one by one, statues in hand, and were greeted with a long round of enthusiastic screams of excitement that seemed to echo throughout the entire convention center! The shouts of joy from the kids in the room never stopped throughout the entire Q and A session, as the gang told stories of their lives before the show, favorite memories from the set, meeting each other for the first time and when they realized the effect the show was making on fans. For Selena, that moment came when a young boy approached her and asked if the magic on the show was real. "I asked him, 'Do you believe it's real?' He almost started crying and said, 'Yes, I do think it's real' and I said, 'Then that's all that matters,'" Selena recalled. "That's when I realized what an impact the show was having on people." Then the audience got in on the act with their own questions for the cast — including a marriage proposal for David and Selena receiving a flower from a young male admirer! The Wizards gang also revealed that Harper would be moving in with the Russos this season, Justin would be taking up monster hunting, Max would be conjuring up more spells and Alex, well, she will still be single and causing trouble. As soon as the questions were done and the cast bid the audience adieu, the event was capped off by an amazing performance from Honor Society. An Emmy win plus one of the warmest and most energetic welcomes at the D23 Expo made for an afternoon even the Wizards group won't soon forget. "When you win an Emmy, you can celebrate with your family and friends, but to have won this last night and to celebrate with the fans, it's an unbelievable experience," Todd tells D23. "To have four thousand people screaming in that room was surreal and it was the cherry on the cake of the whole weekend!"

New DCOM Preview: Starstruck

So it looks like Sterling Knight is getting his own DCOM. Apparently Disney had originally wanted Cody Linley for the role, but he had a scheduling conflict so they decided to go with Sterling instead. Disney press release follows:
PRODUCTION HAS BEGUN ON NEW MUSIC-FILLED DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE "STARSTRUCK," STARRING STERLING KNIGHT AND DANIELLE CAMPBELL Production has begun on "Starstruck," a music-filled Disney Channel Original Movie starring Sterling Knight ("Sonny With A Chance") and introducing Danielle Campbell. Slated to premiere in 2010, the movie is filming in and around Los Angeles at landmark locations including Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard, the Hollywood Sign, Grauman's Chinese Theater and the Venice Boardwalk. The story follows Jessica Olson (played by Campbell), a down-to-earth girl from the Midwest who collides (literally) with Hollywood's teen heartthrob, pop star Christopher Wilder (played by Knight). They wind up on a love-struck adventure in Southern California, but their bond is tested when she returns home and he publicly denies their relationship. Also starring are Brandon Mychal Smith ("Sonny With A Chance") as Stubby, Christopher's childhood best friend; Maggie Castle ("The Time Traveler's Wife") as Sara Olson, Jessica's older, star struck sister; and Dan O'Connor ("Malcolm in the Middle") and Beth Littleford (Disney XD's upcoming "I'm in the Band", "Rules of Engagement") as Dean and Barbara Olson, Jessica and Sara's parents. Knight and Smith have become familiar faces to Disney Channel fans since the debut of their hit series "Sonny With A Chance." Since its February 2009 premiere, "Sonny With A Chance" is TV's No. 1 program in its Sunday 8:00 p.m. time period in Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14, and ranks among TV’s Top 5 programs overall in the target demos. "Starstruck" is part of the blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie franchise which has delivered cable television's #1 and #2 scripted telecasts of all time in Total Viewers and cable's #1 and #2 telecast ever in Kids 6-11 and Tweens 9-14 with "High School Musical 2" and "Wizards of Waverly Place The Movie." The movie's soundtrack will feature songs written by songwriters Mitch Allan, Jessi Alexander, Adam Anders, Aris Aronchitis, Peer Astrom, Ali Dee, Andy Dodd, Nikki Hassman, Jeannie Lurie, Niclas Molinder, Chen Neeman, Joacim Persson and Adam Watts. "Starstruck" is directed by Michael Grossman ("90210," "Grey's Anatomy"); executive-produced by Doug Sloan (Disney Channel's "Princess Protection Program," "Minutemen"); co-executive-produced by Jeffrey Thal ("Slaves to the Underground") and Jon Brown ("The Poseidon Adventure," "The Tie That Binds"); choreographed by Zach Woodlee ("Glee," "Hairspray") and written by Barbara E. Johns and WGA-Award winning Annie DeYoung (Disney Channel's "Princess Protection Program," "Johnny Kapahala: Back on Board").

D23 Expo Recap (Part 4)

On the last day of the D23 Expo, we had by far the most amazing event of the entire event, the Wizards of Waverly Place Cast and Crew Panel. In attendance where Selena Gomez (Alex Russo), David Henrie (Justin Russo), Jake T. Austin (Max Russo), Jennifer Stone (Harper), Maria Canals-Barrera (Theresa Russo), Todd J. Greenwald (Creator), and Peter Murrieta (Executive Producer). David DeLuise (Jerry Russo) had been scheduled to appear, but had injured himself the night before when he got a little too exited about their Emmy win.

The event opened with the screening of the first season three episode. In this episode, Justin creates a monster to keep Alex out of his room, but things don't go as planned.

Franken-girl

Alex actually ends up trying out for cheer leading!

Franken-girl

And of course, Selena was as cute as ever. Even with her short hair.

Franken-girl

Anyway, after the video, they brought out the cast for an hour long Q&A. Most of the questions that Peter asked them where the usual sort of stuff, like "favorite memories" for example. There where more interesting questions from the audience, but most of those questions ened up being requests for hugs from Selena and David! The last question was actually a marriage proposal for David! They brought the girl up on stage and she got down one knee and everything! It was an insanely awesome event.
