A new DCOM starring Tyler James Williams, Coco Jones and Trevor Jackson? Oookay. A few thoughts that ran through my head…
1) They’re ripping off Victorious with the title. :/
2) Coco Jones? Seriosuly? She’s that crazy chick that was trying to sing “Who Says” at the 2011 D23 Expo.
3) “Cyrus DeBarge”? Cyrus DeBarge? Are they really that desperate?
4) “its soundtrack will include 12 original songs” Oh… maybe they are that desperate. LOL
5) “Brandon Mychal Smith (“So Random!”) as Lord of Da Bling, the intimidating champion rapper” Lord of Da Bling? Okay… that might actually be worth seeing.
6) “Nicole Sullivan (“MADtv”) as Roxanne’s powerful music manger Lyla;” Alright. I’ll watch. But I’m gonna write a harsh review after. xD
And if you’re still trying to place Coco Jones she’s from Radio Disney’s N.B.T.

PRODUCTION HAS BEGUN IN ATLANTA ON “LET IT SHINE,”
A DISNEY CHANNEL ORIGINAL MOVIE–Starring Tyler James Williams, Coco Jones and Trevor Jackson–
Production has begun in Atlanta, Georgia on the Disney Channel Original Movie “Let It Shine,” a modern day teenage Cyrano de Bergerac set in the world of gospel music and hip-hop. The movie is scheduled to premiere in summer 2012 on Disney Channel; its soundtrack will include 12 original songs by acclaimed music producers/songwriters/performers such as Rock Mafia (Selena Gomez and The Scene “Love You Like a Love Song”), Grammy-winner Toby Gad (Beyoncé “If I Were A Boy” and Fergie “Big Girls Don’t Cry”) and David Banner (“Dance the Night Away” featuring Denim from “Footloose” and “Get Like Me” featuring Chris Brown and Yung Joc).
The story follows 16-year-old Cyrus DeBarge, an aspiring musician who has a gift for rhyme yet lacks the self-confidence to take the stage and, through his rap song, tell his longtime crush Roxanne Andrews how he feels about her. After he and his flighty best friend, Kris McDuffy enter a songwriting contest, Kris is mistakenly named the winner for a song Cyrus wrote. Fearful of being thrust into the spotlight, Cyrus panics and allows Kris to take credit for his heartfelt lyrics and soon he’s standing by as Roxanne begins to fall for Kris.
Starring are Tyler James Williams (“Everybody Hates Chris”) as Cyrus DeBarge, a gifted rapper full of self-doubt; Coco Jones (Radio Disney “N.B.T.”) as Roxanne Andrews, a fast-rising music star; Trevor Jackson (“Cold Case”) as Kris McDuffy, a thrilling dancer with a bigger than life personality; Brandon Mychal Smith (“So Random!”) as Lord of Da Bling, the intimidating champion rapper; Nicole Sullivan (“MADtv”) as Roxanne’s powerful music manger Lyla; Courtney B. Vance (“FlashForward”) as Cyrus’ preacher father, Jacob DeBarge, who opposes rap music; and Dawnn Lewis (“A Different World”) as Cyrus’ mother, Gail.
“Let It Shine” is directed by two-time DGA award winner Paul Hoen (“Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam,” “JONAS”), was written by Don D. Scott (“Barbershop,” “Barbershop 2: Back in Business”) and Eric Daniel. The movie is choreographed by Danny Teeson (“American Idol”) and associate Brandon Shaw (“So You Think You Can Dance,” NAACP Image Awards). Songwriters include: Antonina Armato, David Banner, Andy Dodd, In-Q, J-Doe, Toby Gad, Adam Hicks, Tim James, Steven Jones, Jay L’Oreal, Rock Mafia, Justin Mobley, Tocarra Phillips, Lindy Robbins, Thomas Armato Sturges, Dapo Torimiro, Anna Vasilenko, Jon Vella, Lambert “Stereo” Waldrip and Adam Watts. “Let It Shine” is a production of G Wave Productions, LLC.
Greg,
It’s nice to see how enthusiastic you are about this new DCOM. 😛 That said, I do tend to agree with you. As far as I know the only thing Coco Jones has done was win an NBT. She hasn’t even been in a show other than a guest appearance on “So Random!”. Now she’s starring in a DCOM? Yeah, that doesn’t sit well with me either. They should have tapped China Anne McClain for this role.
And yeah, Cyrus DeBarge? WTF? That’s just strange. I don’t even want to make any further comment about that.
How many ways can I say “fail”?
You shouldn’t be bashing a Disney movie if your working on a Disney Channel website! This movie is going to be amazing and a new step for Disney! You’re just being racist and you’re mad that Disney is using an all African-American cast!
Jeez Matt..they weren’t trying to be racist!
Yes, I’m against it because there are black people in it. That’s why I said that I like Brandon Mychal Smith and that his being in it was a good thing. It’s not like he’s an African-American or anything.
[/obvious sarcasm to make an obvious point]
It’s a remake of Cyrano De Bergerac, Cyrano=Cyrus … I know Trevor & he CAN sing, dance & act… got to meet Coco & hear her sing live…she’s good and very nice
I think the movie’s gonna be great & I hope your opinion changes after the movie comes out!!
You can hear Trevor sing here

I think I will really like this movie ! & It will be an inspiration to me also. I want to become an actress on Disney Channel, and some people always say that they are racist. But, I’ll be proud to prove them wrong ! I love Disney ! ?
Let it shine is not racist just because it’s got an all black cast. You don’t say that when you see a movie that has an all whit class do you? So shut up! I’m black and I’m offended
