Acknowledging a young woman’s beauty does not make Greg or anyone else here a pedophile. Kelli Berglund is a teen and not a child. Contrary to a less than century old Western cultural construct, there is a difference: legally she is a minor, which includes teens, biologically she is an adult. The American penchant for inventing problems based on archaic puritanical mores never ceases to amaze me.

Just fyi, 16 is the legal age in many countries, except in the prudish, repressed, guilt-ridden USA where it’s 18.

Actually the age of consent is 16 in most states in the US (29 states + DC), in 9 states the age is 17, and in the remaining 12 states (including CA) it is 18. In most places, the relative ages of the couple make a large difference in terms of legal ramifications. Child pornography pretty much worldwide applies to anyone under the age of 18, even countries with ages of consent that are lower.

@dozer – true, porn is out if you’re under 18, but the strange thing is that nude or semi-nude imagery is not. It’s only against the law if people use it for porn or sexually related material. The problem lies in the definition and location.
I’ve never been able to wrap my head around it. If it’s legal and immoral here, shouldn’t it be illegal and immoral everywhere? But, no. And even then, 100 years ago, as elTiburon pointed out, it was a completely different story where “morality” was concerned.
Not to go OT, but at one time drinking alcohol was against the law and considered immoral, but a few re-writes of the law changed all that and make it okay. What would happen if 16 was made the legal age? What would happen then? Would it still be considered immoral, or just accepted?
