Happy Thanksgiving 2011!

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is here, so our minds have turned
To what time has taught us, to what we’ve learned:
We often focus all our thought
On shiny things we’ve shopped and bought;
We take our pleasure in material things
Forgetting the pleasure that friendship brings.
If a lot of our stuff just vanished today,
We’d see the foundation of each happy day
Is special relationships, constant and true,
And that’s when our thoughts go directly to you.
We wish you a Thanksgiving you’ll never forget,
Full of love and joy—your best one yet!

Article: Disney Net Income Up 30% in 4th Quarter

Posted on: Monday, November 14th, 2011 in: ABC Broadcasting, Disney Channel News, Disneyland, Save Disney Shows, Website

Good news for Disney this quarter!

The Walt Disney Studios

Walt Disney Co. reported strong fourth-quarter earnings, buoyed by gains at Disney Channel and ESPN and at the Burbank company’s theme parks.

The entertainment giant reported net income of $1.08 billion for the quarter ending Oct. 1, a jump of 30% compared with a year earlier. Revenue also rose 7% to $10.4 billion.

Disney achieved record revenue, net income and earnings per share for fiscal 2011. Net income for the year reached $5.26 billion on revenue of nearly $41 billion.

“Given the challenging economic environment this year, I’m particularly proud of our excellent management team, which has consistently delivered on our strategy of creating high-quality content, expanding our platforms and growing our iconic brands and assets worldwide,” Disney President and Chief Executive Robert A. Iger said on a call with media analysts Thursday.

Disney’s media networks group, which includes the ABC television network, its collection of local TV stations and its cable channels, continues to be a profit engine for the company. Media networks posted operating income of $1.4 billion, a gain of 20% from a year earlier.

The TV group’s results were driven by sales of Disney Channel programming and higher fees paid by cable and satellite distributors, as well advertising growth internationally.

ESPN, which set viewership records for the fourth consecutive year, also benefited from fee increases and ad growth. Even the struggling ABC network is gaining traction with new dramas, including its modern-day take on fairy tales, “Once Upon a Time,” and its comedy about suburban life, “Suburgatory.”

Disney’s parks and resorts saw a 33% surge in operating income, which rose to $421 million for the quarter. The improved results at the company’s domestic parks, Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Paris helped to partially offset costs associated with the September opening of the new Aulani hotel and vacation resort in Hawaii.

Iger said the company is beginning to reap the rewards of five years of investments in Disney’s theme parks. In the coming year, the company will open “Carsland,” which is the centerpiece of its $1-billion overhaul of California Adventure in Anaheim and the opening of Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom park in Orlando, Fla.

Walt Disney Studios reported operating income of $117 million in the fourth quarter, up 13% from a year earlier, even though revenue fell 8%.

The studio’s domestic movie ticket sales benefited from this fall’s 3-D re-release of the 17-year-old animated classic “The Lion King,” which grossed about $150 million in worldwide box office receipts, Iger said.

Pixar Animation Studio’s sequel, “Cars 2,” had $559 million in global ticket sales but compared unfavorably to the 2010 summer blockbuster “Toy Story 3.”

Iger said the “Cars” franchise continues to spur consumer product sales, noting that it has surpassed “Star Wars” and “Toy Story” in retail sales of movie-themed merchandise. The consumer products group reported operating income of $207 million for the quarter, up 13% from the same period a year ago.

The upcoming Thanksgiving release of “The Muppets” is expected to “rebuild another beloved franchise,” Iger said. He noted that the film cost “less than $50 million to produce” and illustrates Disney’s strategy of releasing a mix of expensive event films like Marvel Entertainment’s 2012 superhero picture “The Avengers” with lower-cost movies.

Disney’s long-struggling interactive group reported a 19% gain in revenue, which rose to $223 million. Operating losses for the group fell to $94 million, compared with $104 million in the same period last year.

Iger said the interactive unit plans to introduce eight social networking games in the coming year, taking advantage of established Disney and Marvel brands, as well as creating original characters.

The chief executive expects the group to post a profit in 2013.

Scarlett Johansson Nude Photo Hacker Arrested

Posted on: Tuesday, October 18th, 2011 in: Disney Channel News, Website

There has been talk for a long time of a group of hackers targeting celebs and spreading nude and risque photos of the girls they had hacked. His past victims have allegedly included Vanessa Hudgens, Miley Cyrus, Jessica Alba, and of course Scarlett Johansson most recently. And TMZ had reported that Mila Kunis was to have been his next target. So let me be the first to say, damn, couldn’t the FBI have arrested him next month? I mean… I know what he did was wrong, but the only reason his leaked pics were a big deal are because people want to see the pics he uncovered! And I really was hoping to see a little bit more of Selena. Oh well. xD

If convicted on all counts, the 35 year old hacker could face up to 121 years in prison!

Articles from MTV News and CNN are included below…

One month after leaked nude photos of Scarlett Johansson hit the Internet, the man who hacked the starlet has been arrested. CNN.com reported that Florida native Christopher Chaney was taken into custody after it was discovered by authorities that he had gained access to the accounts of more than 50 people including Johansson, Mila Kunis and Christina Aguilera.

The 35-year-old from Jacksonville was apprehended by the FBI on Wednesday and indicted on charges of accessing protected computers without authorization, damaging protected computers, wiretapping and aggravated identity theft.

Officials confirm that the Johansson nude photos were part of their investigation. “Unfortunately, [the suspect] was able to access nude photos of some of the celebrities and some of them were uploaded on the Internet,” U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. said, adding that Chaney allegedly “also took financial information, movie scripts and conversations that the celebrities believed to be private.”

The hacker allegedly monitored social media sites the celebrities used to gain access to their passwords. He then would use public sources to scout the data he was looking for. From there, he would use contact lists of the email addresses to which he gained access to find the email addresses of other celebrities, thereby making them victims of hacking too. He also allegedly had emails automatically forwarded to him so he could continue to receive victims’ emails if the account holders changed their passwords.

“You may have selected a password that’s meaningful to you that you may disclose online with friends,” assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office Steven Martinez said. “Your pet’s name or whatever. That’s a clue to a hacker, to start there.”

Cheney was released on $10,000 bail on Wednesday and was ordered not to use any devices with Internet access or be around alcohol or other controlled substances. His next court appearance is on Friday. If convicted of the 26 counts, he faces up to 121 years in prison.

Johansson opened up to CNN about the stolen photos, which were removed from the website that originally posted them, late last month. “Just because you’re an actor or make films or whatever doesn’t mean you’re not entitled to your own personal privacy,” she said. “If that is sieged in some way, it feels unjust. It feels wrong.”

The man accused of hacking celebrities’ online accounts — from which private images were ultimately posted on the Internet — says he became “addicted” to the intrusion and “didn’t know how to stop.”

“I deeply apologize. I know what I did was probably one of the worst invasions of privacy someone could experience,” Christopher Chaney told CNN affiliate WAWS/WTEV in Jacksonville, Florida, Wednesday.

“And these people don’t have privacy to begin with. And I was in that little sliver of privacy they do have.”

Federal authorities accuse the 35-year-old of hacking into accounts on computers and other devices belonging to more than 50 people, including movie stars Scarlett Johansson and Mila Kunis and singer Christina Aguilera.

Chaney was indicted on charges of accessing protected computers without authorization, damaging protected computers, wiretapping and aggravated identity theft, officials said.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Chaney was able to access nude photos of some of the celebrities and some of them were uploaded on the Internet,” U.S. Attorney Andre Birotte Jr. said Wednesday.

A recently circulated nude photo of Johannsson is part of the investigation, he said.

Chaney allegedly “also took financial information, movie scripts and conversations that the celebrities believed to be private,” Birotte told reporters.

The FBI’s Los Angeles office said he was arrested as part of “Operation Hackerazzi,” which looked into computer intrusions targeting individuals associated with the entertainment industry.

In the interview with WAWS/WTEV, Chaney said the hacking “started as curiosity and it turned into just being, you know, addicted to seeing the behind-the-scenes of what’s going on with these people you see on the big screen every day.”

“It just happened and snowballed,” he said, adding that he wishes it had never begun.

Chaney said he felt “almost relieved months ago” when authorities seized his computer because “I didn’t know how to stop doing it myself. I wasn’t attempting to break into e-mails and get stuff to sell or purposely put it on the Internet. It just — I don’t know.”

Authorities allege that Chaney distributed photos of the celebrities that he obtained illegally and offered them to various celebrity blog sites. Some of the illegally obtained files, including private photographs, were ultimately posted online “as a result of Chaney’s alleged activities,” authorities said in a statement.

“I’ve had like six months to think about it,” Chaney said, “it eats at me… When you’re doing it you’re not thinking about what’s going on with who you’re doing it to.”

Chaney allegedly was able to access passwords by monitoring social media and other online sites that the celebrities used, said Steven Martinez, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles field office.

“You may have selected a password that’s meaningful to you that you may disclose online with friends,” Martinez said. “Your pet’s name or whatever. That’s a clue to a hacker, to start there.”

The suspect used several aliases such as “trainreqsuckswhat,” “anonygrrl,” and “jaxjaguars911,” authorities said in a news release.
Chaney also allegedly used public sources to mine data about his victims, which included both males and females, all associated with the entertainment industry, authorities said.

Authorities allege that once Chaney hacked into a celebrity’s e-mail account, he would use the contact lists to find other celebrities’ e-mail accounts. This allowed him to add new victims, authorities charge.

Chaney made his initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Jacksonville, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon, and was released on a $10,000 unsecured bond with the conditions that he can’t use any computer or other device with Internet access and he can’t have any controlled substances or excessive use of alcohol, said Laura Eimiller, an FBI spokeswoman in Los Angeles.

Chaney’s next court appearance will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday for an identity hearing in the same courthouse, Eimiller said.

Chaney has been indicted on nine counts of computer hacking for gain, eight counts of aggravated identify theft, and nine counts of illegal wiretapping, Birotte said.

If convicted of the 26 counts, Chaney would face a maximum of 121 years in federal prison, Birotte said. The aggravated identity theft charge alone carries a mandatory two-year prison sentence, he added.

Chaney allegedly set his victims’ accounts to automatically forward their e-mails to his account, Birotte said. This allegedly allowed Chaney to continue to receive celebrities’ e-mails even after a password was reset, authorities said.

Martinez said authorities coined the term “hackerazzi” to describe this kind of intrusion.

“The paparazzi is always chasing them down, and now you have a virtual way of doing it by looking at posts they put on social media sites,” Martinez said.
In 2005, hackers logged into Paris Hilton’s phone and stole photos of her, according to Mikko Hypponen, chief research officer at the F-Secure computer security company. Those hackers reportedly were able to break into Hilton’s phone by correctly guessing the not-so-secret answer to her security question, which was “tinkerbell,” the name of her pet Chihuahua.

In August, rapper Kreayshawn wrote on her blog that her Twitter account was hacked when naked photos of her showed up there.

In March, Vanessa Hudgens of “High School Musical” underwent a similar ordeal after photos were reportedly stolen from her Gmail account.
And in December, police in Germany alleged two young men had used computer-hacking skills to gain access to the e-mail accounts and photos of more than 50 celebrities, according to Britain’s The Telegraph, including the likes of Lady Gaga and Ke$ha.

In the wake of the latest celebrity hacking allegations, some have started to assume celebrity photo leaks are the newest front in the so-called “hacktivist” wars, waged by big-name hacking rings such as Anonymous and LulzSec. Those groups have claimed responsibility for taking down bank and government websites.

But security experts said connections between celebrity hackers and groups such as Anonymous are thin or nonexistent.
“It’s obviously to gain media exposure, right?” said Kevin Mitnick, a hacker turned security consultant and author of “Ghost in the Wires.” “It’s like everyone is trying to one-up Anonymous and one-up LulzSec. So somehow celebrities are becoming a target.”

This announcement follows the decision by Carolina Lightcap to step down as president, Disney Channels Worldwide.

In this new position, Mr. Marsh will have full creative oversight and leadership responsibility for Disney’s successful and burgeoning global kids TV business, comprising more than 100 kid-driven, family inclusive entertainment channels and feeds which are available in 169 countries and 35 languages. There is no one better suited to manage this than Gary. He not only understands the zeitgeist of kids’ culture, he helped create it. Our business couldn’t be in better hands.”

Said Mr. Marsh: “The strength of Disney Channels Worldwide – and its heart – has always been the dynamic and dedicated people who make the magic and put it into the homes and hands of kids and families around the world. These talented people who share my passion for creative excellence are the reason I’ve loved working here. And it’s also why I’m excited by this expanded opportunity to lead this team in creating and delivering content, globally, which entertains, uplifts and inspires.”

As president, Entertainment, and Chief Creative Officer, Disney Channels Worldwide, Mr. Marsh managed the worldwide Programming Strategy, Planning and Acquisitions teams, Original Movies, Original Series, Casting, Talent Relations and Production for Disney Channel U.S. and Disney XD, overseeing the development and production of a slate of original programming for Disney Channels Worldwide – both live action and animated – with original programming teams based in Burbank, London and Japan. In addition, he oversaw the development and production arms of Disney Television Animation.

His track record in developing cultural phenomena like “High School Musical,” “Hannah Montana,” “Phineas and Ferb” and “Lizzie McGuire” has been a hallmark of his success. In addition to spearheading these blockbuster Disney Channel Original Movie and Original Series franchises, he has also overseen Disney Junior programming, which includes break-out hits “Jake and the Never Land Pirates,” “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and “Handy Manny.”

Throughout his tenure at Disney Channel, Mr. Marsh has developed projects that have garnered the highest industry and critical acclaim, including multiple Emmys and Humanitas Prizes, plus Peabody, NAMIC, Gabriel, Women in Film, Parents’ Choice and New York International Film and Television Festival Awards. He is the co-creator and co-chair of City of Hope’s annual Concert for Hope, and was also a 2005 Honoree of Girls Incorporated, which recognizes industry leaders who are excellent role models for girls and young women.

The month starts off with a new Phineas and Ferb the weekend after Labor day. I guess no one watches TV this weekend?

On a Serious Note…

Posted on: Tuesday, July 26th, 2011 in: Webmaster Greg, Website

I guess the best way to start this story is to simply tell it from the beginning. As I’m sure most of you know by now, I have an unusual work schedule. Because of this, I usually write my posts a week or more in advance and schedule them so they post on a fairly regular basis.

So last week I saw this picture on Allisyn Ashley Arm’s twitter…

… and I was like, “Holy F#&k!”

15 year old Allisyn is showing a lot of leg and quite honestly I was taken aback. You see… I kinda actually know her a little bit. I can’t really revel my sources, but I know people that are close to her and it was just very strange to see her like that.

I had a discussion with one of my close friends about it that evening. I realized a couple things that night. First, that if it felt wrong to sexualize her by reposting that pic with the usual commentary, then I probably shouldn’t do it. Of course, it wasn’t a far leap then to conclude that sexualizing ANY girl like that would be just as equally wrong… and that’s pretty much all we do here.

I mean, just because I don’t know her cute blond friend Audrey Whitby, that doesn’t mean it’s somehow more appropriate to comment on her looks than on Allisyn. Their outfits there are almost identical, after all.

Truth be told, I don’t enjoy writing for this site the way I used to. It used to be about the shows, but then we lost the screencap gallery and thing just kind of… slipped.

And then… something else happened. I can’t really go into the details, but I lost a dear friend. I may talk to her again someday 3-4 years from now, but I’m not holding my breath on that.

Anyway, that gave me some time to think. And I realized that a change has to be made. Now a site like this obviously can’t turn on a dime. It took a while to get to where we are today, and it will take a while to get back to the course I had originally planned for this site, but it has to be done.

I’ll still be posting pictures of course. But they’re going to be topical and more news worthy, like this shot of the Friends for change blue team. I’m also going to avoid the underage girls in general.

So that means this is probably the last Allisyn post for quite a while. This also means you’ll need to look elsewhere if you’re a big Bella Thorne fan or are particularly into Stefanie Scott. As for the other girls, I may occasionally comment on Selena’s mole or make a preemptive comment on Ashley’s legs, but in general I’m just gonna post the pics and let you decide for yourselves what you think.

If everyone decided to take pics with stormtroopers maybe this won’t be too hard of an adjustment. xD

Now, I will remind you that, as I said before, I write posts in advance and they aren’t always actually posted in order. So this transition will not be immediate, but you should start to notice it over the next couple weeks. I would like to thank you all for your loyal readership over the past few weeks, months, or years and I hope you enjoy the new format.

I would also like to note that this also applies to the new Nick Girls Blog. Future updates there may be a bit more sporadic as I focus on rebuilding and restructuring this blog. I will be sure to do my best to keep you updated.

One final thing, I am looking for a couple new contributors who can help me keep up with the latest news and events for Disney and Nick. In particular, I’m looking for people more familiar with Nick, but that’s not a must.
