Disney First Quarter Profit Climbs 12%

Well, looks like the Parks division and Media Networks division saw good growth in the past quarter.
Walt Disney Co.’s (DIS) fiscal first-quarter profit rose a stronger-than-expected 12% as the company’s theme-park division benefited from higher spending and attendance. … Revenue from Disney’s television and theme-park businesses continued to drive its top-line growth over the past year, though the contribution from cable-TV juggernaut ESPN suffered in the latest quarter …

Save the Nine Lives of Chloe King

Dan Berendsen (executive producer & head writer) tells us:
“Right now the network hasn’t committed to anything past a [movie] script, but I know they love the show and are very hopeful they can make this work”
This is why it’s critical for all Chloe King fans to continue to do as much as possible to push ABC Family to continue with the movie project. In support of this goal, we have updated our email program at SDSmail.org and the SDS How to Help section with many more ABC Family contacts including Michael Riley- the President of ABC Family Channel.
Learn more about how you can help on the SDS Save Nine Lives page and on our partner website Chloe King Source.
Platypus Day 2012

It’s good to see Disney paying at least some attention to animation again. It’s a start.
Disney’s hugely popular duck-billed, beaver-tailed, teal-colored character Perry the Platypus, as seen on “Phineas and Ferb,” the #1 animated series for kids and tweens, will be the main attraction on Platypus Day, SATURDAY, MARCH 3. The celebration includes the introduction of “The Platypus Walk,” a catchy spy-surf-rock song and dance designed to encourage fun physical activity as part of Disney’s commitment to inspire kids and families to lead active lifestyles.

Nick star Jennette McCurdy shows her support for SDS
{ Full Size Image Link }
It seems like we’re always recanting some recent adventure of our Webmaster Greg in LA, but he really stepped up his game last month! You see, Jennette McCurdy of Nickelodeon’s hit series iCarly did a special charity event in Beverly Hills and Greg was there not only to meet her, but to give her a Save Disney Shows bracelet. Her reaction was… well… about what you would expect for a Nick star! But it was quite nice of her to hold it up for the live webcast of Greg’s friend Brian of McCurdian.com. And of course, she made sure to say that she would mention it to her many friends on Disney. =]
You’ll find a lot more about Jennette’s event, plus an archive of that original video feed over on the Nick Girls Blog.

This concludes this email news alert. Thanks for reading from all of us at Save Disney Shows.

Sean Cocchia Promoted at Disney Channel

Following Gary Marsh’s recent promotion, it seems logical that Sean Cocchia would be moving up a step as well. Together Marsh and Cocchia have played a major role in shaping the direction of the channel for the past few years.
Sean Cocchia has been promoted to the new role of Senior Vice President, Business Operations and General Manager, Disney Channels Worldwide,… Cocchia has been with Disney since 1998 and was most recently Senior Vice President and General Manager, Radio Disney. New DCOM Radio Rebel Premieres This Month

Debby Ryan’s new DCOM premieres later this month.
Fan favorite Debby Ryan (“Jessie”) stars as a teen who secretly breaks free from her painfully shy self and into the persona of a bold podcast host who rocks her Seattle high school with music and the message to ‘be yourself,’ in “Radio Rebel,” a Disney Channel Original Movie based on the novel Shrinking Violet, premiering FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 17 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT).

Apparently Webmaster Greg doesn’t have enough to do already, because he’s started a new website about the ABC Broadcast network and ABC Family Channel. We think he just has a crush on Lucy Hale, but it looks like a fun site all the same.

Kimvention Cancelled

Last night Donald Speirs (Chairman & CEO,
Kimvention 2012, Inc.) announced that due to low ticket sales Kimvention 2012 has been cancelled.
Lots of people over the last six months said they wanted to attend. Even pledged they would buy tickets once they went on sale. But I guess they wanted to attend something other than what I offered. When we opened the event sales a couple of weeks ago, almost no one purchased tickets.
The entire Save Disney Shows team would like to take a moment to thank Mr. Speirs and the entire Kimvention team for their efforts to organize this event and keep KP’s memory alive. Please take a moment to read the full letter at the Kimvention 2012 website and please consider making a donation to St Judes in honor of Gary Sperling.
It is possible that some sort of smaller event may take place with certain members of the crew. We will keep you updated if and when we know more.
Selena Gomez’s UNICEF Benefit Concert

On January 20th Wizards of Waverly Place star Selena Gomez held her second annual UNICEF benefit concert at the House of Blues Sunset Strip in Hollywood CA. Never one to miss out on a chance to see Selena, our very own Webmaster Greg was there in attendance. Along with special guests Big Time Rush, Selena put on quite a show in this unique acoustic performance.
You’ll find a few photos and a lot of video from the event over on the DC Fans Blog.

Save The Nine Lives of Chloe King

ABC Family clearly didn’t learn their lesson and they have AGAIN cancelled a new series after only ten episodes! The ABC Family series The Nine Lives of Chloe King was just getting started and had just begun to build up what was a very large and elaborate story line. We had some major plot elements revealed in the mid-season finale, which unfortunately has become the series finale. We call on all Disney fans to help us in our campaign to get this series renewed. No show deserves to end before it’s potential an even be measured. Our first SDS event is next week on October 9th (for nine lives) and we really need your support!
Learn more about how you can help us ave the show on our Nine Lives section of Save Disney Shows.
Disney Channel October Highlights

It’s time again for our first look at that’s new on Disney channel this month. And it looks like a lot of Wizards! “Wizards vs. Everything” will be the 25th episode of the season and we are clearly nearing the end of the series run. Also new this month are the usual couple episodes of ANT Farm, So Random, Phineas and Ferb, Good Luck Charlie, and Shake it Up. There are also several Jessie episodes, which one would expect seeing as how it’s a new show.
If you’re interested in learning more about Debby’s new show, you might want to check out DebbyRyan.net and our new Jessie fan site at DisneysJessie.com.

Gary Marsh named President of Disney Channel!

Huge news at Disney Channel this month! Carolina Lightcap, the now former president of Disney Channels Worldwide, has decided to step down from her post. Gary Marsh, Disney Channel’s Chief Creative Officer has now been promoted to president for Disney Channels Worldwide in addition to continuing to serve as Chief Creative Officer. Mr Marsh has long been one of the most receptive and well respected executives at Disney Channel, and his ascension to president of the channel is very good news for the fans in general.
In commenting on Mr. Marsh and his promotion, Anne Sweeney, co-chair, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney/ABC Television Group said, “Gary Marsh has been the driving creative force behind Disney Channels remarkable growth for the past 15 plus years, responsible for some of the most iconic and successful franchises in our history, including ‘Hannah Montana,’ ‘Wizards of Waverly Place,’ ‘High School Musical,’ ‘Phineas and Ferb,’ ‘That’s So Raven,’ ‘Shake It Up’ and many others.” She continued, “The evolution and growth of our Disney Channels business will come from the alignment of this great creative with strong distribution, in all its myriad forms. There is no one better suited to manage this than Gary. He not only understands the zeitgeist of kids’ culture, he helped create it. Our business couldn’t be in better hands.”

It’s been quite a year for Demi Lovato. But she’s gotten her life back in order and her new album “Unbroken” was just released last month. In support of the new album Demi did two concerts, one in NYC and one in LA. Our own Webmaster Greg was there at the LA show and has a full report including quite a few concert videos from the show. It was an amazing show.

Lauren Frost & Margo Harshman are Violet Hour

Long time Disney fans may remember actresses Lauren Frost and Margo Harshman from Disney’s Even Stevens. Lauren played Ren’s slightly ditsy friend Ruby and Margo played Louis’s friend and eventual love interest Tawny. These two talented girls have since teamed up and formed a band called Violet Hour. Our own Webmaster Greg had the opportunity to see and speak with them at their concert at El Cid in Los Angeles last month.

Debby Ryan’s Jessie Begins Filming

Debby Ryan’s new show Jessie filmed it’s first episode back on Friday, June 17th 2011 at Hollywood Center Studios. In the new series, Debby plays recent HS graduate Jessie who was raised in rural Texas. She wants to be a singer/actress and comes to New York to chase that dream. She ends up as a live in nanny to four kids, three of whom are adopted from all over the world. The parents are like “Brangelina” with the mom an ex-model and the dad having a movie background. Jessie quickly finds herself hired and on the job.
It’s very much unlike any show Disney has ever ordered for DC. If it succeeds it could be a major game changer for the future of the network. If it fails, well, expect more shows built on the HM formula for a loooong time. The show is expected to premiere in the fall. We will of course continue to keep you updated.

generated development plans for a DCOM debut. The comedy series features two high-spirited characters,
best friends CeCe Jones and Raquel “Rocky” Blue… Between learning
a wide range of new dance styles, navigating the backstage antics at the show (especially with their
rivals Tinka and Gunther) and their newfound social status at school, the girls experience new and fun
adventures, some that test their friendship.

Kim Possible Fan Convention 2012

Periodically, we bring you messages from other groups that are working on projects that we think may be of interest to you, our readers. At SDS we are committed to preserving Kim’s legacy for all time, and for this reason we strongly endorse this new fan proposal. We urge you to join with then directly via facebook but of course we will continue to keep you updated on the project via this newsletter.
KIM POSSIBLE FAN CONVENTION 2012: WHAT’S THE SITCH?
On July 15, a gentleman started positing on various Kim Possible fan sites across the Internet. His one question – was anyone interested – seriously interested – in having a fan celebration to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Kim Possible.
The idea isn’t without precedent – the Disney animated show GARGOYLES had a 13-year run of fan gatherings in different spots around the country. But there are challenges: KP fans had never successfully organized a fan gathering during the run of the show, the show ended it’s original broadcast run in 2007, it is currently not being shown in reruns anywhere in the US, and the last previous online effort surrounding the show left fans feeling bitter about the owner of the show, The Walt Disney Company.
On July 21, a Facebook page appeared online: KIM POSSIBLE FAN CONVENTION 2012. The goal was simple. Find 100 serious KP fans willing to indicate they liked the idea of such an event. It they stepped forward, then work would commence on building the event from idea into reality.
My name is Donald Speirs. I’m the gentleman with that idea, and today I’m happy to announce that we have reached and shattered that goal. As of August 1st, we start the planning stages for a Kim Possible Fan Convention 2012.
The goal of the event is simple. We’re going to celebrate the creative team that came together and gave us the first great heroine of the 21st century. We’ll have fun sharing Kim stuff. And this will be a fan convention, so we will be taking in ideas on what things should be at such a gathering.
We’re in the very early planning stages – but you’re in for a treat. For one thing, it’s not just fans who want this event. Word of this project made it’s way to Hollywood, and some people came to Facebook and said they’re excited about this event as well: Kurt Weldon. Thomas Hart. Mark Drop. Brian Swenlin. Stephen Silver. Lisa Schaffer. Andy Ice. Adam Berry. Steve Loter. Bob Schooley (yes, that Bob Schooley). With their input on the event as well, I expect this will be a fan event unlike any other.
So pencil in these dates on your calendar: June 8-10, 2012. Visit and like the Facebook Page for the Kim Possible Fan Convention 2012. Once there, you’ll get updates from me and the rest of Team Possible 2012 about what’s happening.
Come, join us as we celebrate the first great heroine of the 21st century!.
Selena Gomez Concert at the OC Fair

Our very own Webmaster Greg recently went to see the talented Selena Gomez as she kicked off her new nationwide tour at the Orange County Fair on Sunday July 24th. Disney had also invited some various actors to the show including Adam Irigoyen (Deuce, Shake It Up), Caroline Sunshine (Tinka, Shake It Up) Bella Thorne (CeCe, Shake It Up), and Stefanie Scott (Lexi, ANT Farm). Selena did a total of 18 songs, including songs from all three of her studio albums with an obvious emphasis on the newest album.

May Disney Channel Highlights

The May Disney schedule looks quite bizarre There are no new episodes for anything scheduled for the second half of the month. Are they just not ready to announce their plans that far in advance? If not, is there any particular reason? At SDS we’re puzzled, but we will find out in time.
This month will include the final episode of The Suite Life on Deck and the first episode of Disney’s new series ANT Farm.

Disney’s new man at ABC Family

Disney’s new plan for ABC Family channel includes a new president for the network, Michael G. Riley. In this new article and interview, he discusses the changes at the channel and their plans gong forward.
Mr. Riley was deeply involved with the casting and scheduling of the new shows and will start wooing advertisers this week in New York. In addition to “The Nine Lives of Chloe King,” the new dramas Mr. Riley will be promoting this week include “Switched at Birth,” the story of two teenage girls who were mixed up as newborns. “The Lying Game,” meantime, is a mystery about twin sisters.
The goal for “The Great State of Georgia,” in which Raven-Symoné stars as an aspiring actress with a larger-than-life personality, is to create a comedy block on Wednesday nights. It will be paired with “Melissa & Joey,” a successful returning series starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence.

Is Hellcats in trouble?

A lot of our readers no doubt remember Aly Michalka from Phil of the Future and Ashley Tisdale from The Suite Life and High School Musical. And of course, they have a new series together on the CW network called Hellcats. Unfortunately, the ratings have been dropping at a rather alarming rate and some of us are worried the show won’t be renewed. It’s not a Disney show, but given it’s Disney connections, I’m assuming many of you may be interested. What do you think? Drop us a like at webmasters@savedisneyshows.org or find us on twitter or facebook.
Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure DVD Signing

SDS Webmaster Greg, after many years of trying, finally met High School Musical actress Ashley Tisdale two weeks ago in LA at a DVD signing for her new movie Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure. Unfortunately, this was before we realized that Hellcats might be in trouble (as mentioned above) so he didn’t mention anything about it. Oops! Be sure to check out her new movie, though.

Well, dang it all. For whatever reason Disney XD has decided to cancel production on a third season of the original series I’m in the Band staring Logan Miller, Steve Valentine, Greg Baker, Stephen Full, and my girl Caitlyn Taylor Love.
At this point, details are still sketchy. All we know is that the series was not picked up for another season. We don’t know why, although it’s possible Disney found the ratings to be less than stellar. It seems unlikely a scheduling conflict or money issues like what happened with Phil of the Future would be the cause although it is too soon to say with certainty.
So now I guess it’s up to the fans. Are there enough fans to push for another season? We’ve organized a “Save Iron Weasel” movement over at Save Disney Shows complete with Disney mailing addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers and everything else fans will need to protest this unwarranted cancellation.
Our first Save I’m in the Band Day is Monday April 4th 2011. The Disney executives Carolina Lightcap, David Levine, and Adam Bonnett are probably the most important to write to. You can find their contact info and more on our website in the Get Involved Section.
Even if you’re not a fan yourself, please forward this information to anyone you know that enjoys the show. It’s critically important that we get the word out as quickly as possible!

Some interesting management changes at Disney XD. I remember writing to Mr. Levine back during the original Save KP campaign when he worked for Disney Channel.
David Levine has been promoted to Vice President, Programming and General Manager of Disney XD Worldwide.
Levine, who had previously served as Vice President, Worldwide Programming Strategy, Acquisitions and Co-Productions for Disney Channels Worldwide, has been with the company since 2004. In that post, Levine led the task force to launch Disney XD channel in the U.S. and guided its worldwide roll-out.
In his new position, Levine will oversee program planning and scheduling for the two-year-old, multi-platform Disney XD. He will also work with Disney XD’s programming team to find acquisition and co-production opportunities.
Prior to joining Disney, Levine worked at Ragdoll USA, where he served as Vice President of Business Affairs and Development.
