March Disney Channel Highlights

February Disney Channel Highlights

There’s also a new Wizards of Waverly Place episode and a couple Fish Hooks and Phineas and Ferb episodes this month. The Suite Life on Deck will also wrap up this month (more on that later). The Suite Life Movie

The Suite Life Movie

All things must end, and it looks like the Suite Life franchise is finally coming to an end later this month. It’s been quite a ride.

Television’s popular teen twins Zack and Cody, the longest running continuous characters on Disney Channel, are at the center of the comedy and adventure in the third iteration of their powerhouse “Suite Life” franchise, “The Suite Life Movie,” premiering FRIDAY, MARCH 25 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) as part of the hugely successful Disney Channel Original Movie franchise. Reprising their series roles are Dylan Sprouse and Cole Sprouse, who also executive-produce the movie, Brenda Song (of the Golden Globe-winning and Academy Award-nominated film “The Social Network”), Debby Ryan, Matthew Timmons and Phill Lewis.

Filmed on location in Vancouver, Canada, the comedy adventure movie takes place during spring break as Cody gets an opportunity to participate in a prestigious internship program. However, when twin brother Zack destroys billion-dollar scientific equipment, Cody is kicked out of the program. Soon thereafter, the brothers are approached to join the Gemini Project, a high-tech research center studying the dynamics between twins. Shockingly, they find themselves interconnected in a way they’ve never been before: When one twin experiences a sensation, thought or feeling, the other twin feels it too. While this newfound revelation helps the boys see eye to eye for the first time, it puts them in more danger than they could have imagined.

New Pilot: Madison High

New Pilot: Madison High

At Save Disney Shows, we once had a movement to get Disney to produce a High School Musical series for DC. Well, with this announcement that Alyson Reed will reprise her role as Ms. Darbus in the new Pilot Madison High, it looks like Disney is finally doing just that! And it’s also been revealed that G Hannelius has been added to the cast!

A favorite star from “High School Musical” will be joined by six multitalented performers in a new music and dance-driven comedy pilot, “Madison High” (working title). Bella Thorne Shakes Things Up

Bella Thorne

As Disney’s newest show Shake It Up continues to get more popular, Bella Thorne (CeCe) continues to be just as accessible to fans as ever — a rare treat among celebs usually too busy for their fans. Our own Webmaster Greg retells a recent twitter exchange he had with Bella:

Greg: @bellathorne143 Such a diva. Can’t even walk on her own. Poor Sage. LOL (You know I’m only kiddin’ Bella).

Bella: @anitrain actually he picks me up with 1 arm but yeah. he can spoil a girl

Waking Sleeping Beauty

Waking Sleeping Beauty

You need to see this movie. This film tells the story of the 1984 a stockholders’ revolt that brought in the new management team that included Michael Eisner, Frank Wells, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Roy E. Disney (Walt’s nephew). It chronicles the decade between 1984 and 1994 when the studio created such hits as The Little Mermaid, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King. It is a Disney movie, and obviously has some bias in how events are portrayed, but it is still a fascinating look at a piece of contemporary Disney history that most people will not be familiar with. You can find the film on Amazon (only $4 to rent or about $20 to own). It’s also available on Netflix and a variety of other sites.

Disney’s Fish Hooks Renewed & New Series!

Posted on: Thursday, December 9th, 2010 in: Chelsea Kane Staub, Disney Channel News, Fish Hooks, Save Disney Shows

Apparently Fish Hooks is Disney Channel’s #2 animated series! (Second only to Phineas and Ferb) Wow … wait, aren’t there only those two? LOL

Disney's Fish Hooks

Also, I noticed that this is the first article that refers to Chelsea Kane as the voice of Bea. Of course, this is because Chelsea Staub decided that this would be a good time to change her “professional” name. She didn’t get married or anything like that.  Anyway, this means that I need a new fansite now too, so I decided to go with Chelsea-Kane.com.

Disney’s official press release follows:

DISNEY TELEVISION ANIMATION REELS IN SECOND SEASON OF HIT COMEDY “FISH HOOKS” AND NEW ORDER FOR COMEDY SERIES “GRAVITY FALLS”

Disney Television Animation has reeled in a second-season pick-up of Disney Channel’s animated comedy series “Fish Hooks” and an order for a new animated Disney Channel comedy series, “Gravity Falls,” each creator-driven series from noteworthy storytellers Noah Z. Jones and Alex Hirsch. The announcement was made today by Eric Coleman, Senior Vice President, Original Series, Disney Television Animation.

Coleman said: “The heart of our work is storytelling, and in these two outstanding projects we have the pleasure and privilege of working with a team of talented artists, in every sense of the word, who are delivering wonderfully imaginative characters and relevant stories to kids and families around the world.” He continued, “We’re gratified that viewers have responded so strongly and positively to ‘Fish Hooks,’ and we believe ‘Gravity Falls,’ will be a perfect addition to our growing lineup of shows that are fresh, contemporary and custom-made for our audience.”

Eye-catching and funny, “Fish Hooks” is led by former freelance illustrator Noah Z. Jones (children’s books Always in Trouble and Not Norman: A Goldfish Story) whose unique character designs and sensibility first came to the attention of Disney Television Animation executive Mike Moon via Jones’ website. Moon asked Jones if he’d ever thought about doing anything in TV and, two years later, Jones’ imaginative story of three tween fish navigating high school debuted. Since its September premiere, “Fish Hooks” is neck and neck with “Phineas and Ferb” as TV’s No. 1 animated series among Kids 6-11 (1.52 million/6.1 rating) and Tweens 9-14 (1.14 million/4.7 rating)*, and is also second only to Disney’s hit “Phineas and Ferb” for 2010.

Jones is creator and executive producer of the series, working with a veteran television animation team — executive producer Maxwell Atoms (“The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy”) and directors Carl Greenblatt and Bill Reiss (both of “Chowder”).

Rendered in 2D animation set against photo-real backgrounds, the “Fish Hooks” stories follow three best fish friends (BFFs) as they navigate their way through the choppy waters of high school. In the second season, stories will dive deeper into Bea, Milo and Oscar’s friendship and their adventures at Freshwater High with their classmates including Jocktopus, Shellsea and Clamantha.

The lead characters, Bea, Milo and Oscar, are voiced by Chelsea Kane (fka Chelsea Staub), Kyle Massey and Justin Roiland, and the recurring voice cast includes Richard Simmons as Coach Salmon, Edie McClurg as Mrs. Goldfishberg, Jerry Stiller as Principal Stickler, Rachel Dratch as Esmargot, Atticus Shaffer as Albert Glass and Tiny Lister as Mr. Mussels.

Disney Television Animation has also received an order for the stylized series “Gravity Falls,” an imaginative, animated comedy about contemporary twins who are thrust into the mysterious town of Gravity Falls, Oregon. Slated for a spring 2012 premiere on Disney Channel, the series was created and will be executive-produced by Alex Hirsch (writer and storyboard artist on “The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack” and creative consultant on “Fish Hooks”).

“Gravity Falls” introduces twin brother and sister Dipper and Mabel Pines, whose summer plans are ruined when their parents ship them off to their Great Uncle Stan (aka “Grunkle Stan”) in Gravity Falls, Oregon. Grunkle Stan lives in and runs The Mystery Shack, a tourist trap which overcharges unlucky visitors for a glimpse at the world’s most bizarre museum, but little do Dipper and Mabel know that there really is something very strange going on and they must rely on one another to find their way in this unfamiliar town.

Disney Television Animation is an industry leader in the production of quality animated properties for television. Disney Channel is a 24-hour kid-driven, family inclusive television network that taps into the world of kids and families through original series and movies. Currently available on basic cable in over 99 million U.S. homes and to millions of other viewers on Disney Channels around the world, Disney Channel is part of the Disney/ABC Television Group.

New Disney Animated Series: Fish Hooks

Disney has begun production on a new animated series that revolves around the lives of fish that attend school in the middle of a large pet store fish tank.

New Animated Series: Fish Hooks

The idea, of course, is to explore the “traditional teen issues” in a way that hasn’t been done before.

Wait, isn’t there a popular animated show about sea creatures on Nickelodeon? Sponge something? Oh wait, those are ocean dwellers, never mind.

I’ll certainly give it a fair shake when it premieres in 2010. Chelsea Staub is excited to be voicing “an overly dramatic goldfish!” and that’s enough for Webmaster Greg to give it a chance.

Suite Life on Deck Renewed

We hope Dylan and Cole aren’t feeling typecast! This will make the 7th season for their characters! Webmaster Greg still liked the original series better (mostly for Ashley Tisdale) but the spin off is also very well done, and it certanly deserves to continue.

Miramax President Steps Down

It looks like Disney is serious about shaking up it’s film division (You’ll remember Dick Cook got the boot last month) and now they’re getting serious about change at Miramax. Daniel Battsek, the president of Miramax, will step down this Januarry. Disney has yet to name a replacement.
