The sequel, choreographed by Rosero McCoy, is a tour de force for actress and recording artist Demi Lovato. It showcases both the music and charm of Kevin, Joe and Nick Jonas, and includes their younger brother Frankie Jonas in his TV movie debut. The highly anticipated sequel also brings back fan favorites from “Camp Rock,” 2008′s #1 cable TV movie. Mitchie emerges as a leader determined to save the camp and challenges the egocentric Luke Williams and his fellow Camp Star campers to a Final Jam — an end-of-summer performance duel, may the best camp win.

Camp Rock 2 Advance Screening Review

Posted on: Saturday, August 7th, 2010 in: Alyson Stoner, Demi Lovato, Disney Channel News, Meaghan Martin, Webmaster Greg

Today I attended a special advance screening of Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam The Walt Disney Studios’ Studio Theatre in Burbank, California.

Camp Rock 2 The Final Jam Advance Screening

Now, D23′s resident “Disney Geek” and host of today’s festivities specifically asked us not to give away any plot point – particularly the ending. But he did say it was okay to discuss our general feelings on the movie, the songs, and the Q&A session after the film with director Paul Hoen, writer Dan Berendsen, Michael Healy, senior vice president, Disney Channel Original Movies, Disney Channel, and Steven Vincent, vice president, Music and Soundtracks, Disney Channel.

Camp Rock 2 Advance Screening Panel

Now that I’ve got that disclaimer out of the way, let me say that Camp Rock 2 was awesome – a huge improvement from the first film. If you read my thoughts about the original Camp Rock, you’ll see that my biggest complaint about the original was the atrocious writing. It was almost as if they wrote the music scenes first and then threw together a few plot points to connect them. That was not the case with camp Rock 2.

Camp Rock 2 Advance Screening Theater

As Steven Vincent said about the music, “It was driven by the story .. [we] don’t stop for a song” instead the music moves the story along. In a lot of ways, this film was more musical than the original. It was a full on musical, with a touch of the “Musical about a musical” feel of HSM. Michael Healy said that was a conscious decision to “turn it into a full blown musical” and alluded to a decision as one that made the film less realistic. I can’t really speak to the realism element (I mean, no one ever actually breaks out into song) but I think it was a very good move. The film didn’t have that awkward in between feel of CR1.

Camp Rock 2 Advance Screening Still

As for the overall plot, it’s a very different story than the original. Dan Berendsen explained that “This story is timeless … it’s fighting for something you believe in.” Mitchie is a very different character; she was the outsider before but now she’s a definite leader. If you’ve looked at the soundtrack, you’ll know that Demi has a lot of songs on the soundtrack, and that corresponds to a lot of screen time. Of course, she is the star! Mitchie essentially takes command of Camp Rock following the exodus of most of their staff to Camp Star. The always self-centered Tess Tyler (Meaghan Martin) seemed to learn her lesson from the first movie, but still quickly defected to the other camp thus allowing her to be an antagonist once more. Caitlyn Geller (Alyson Stoner) seemed to have a lot more screen time, although she still didn’t sing much. Joe was actually… dare I say it, kinda good as Shane Gray. The Nate (Nick Jonas) and Dana (Chloe Bridges) subplot was okay; nothing special. Jason (Kevin Jonas) was, as usual, just kinda there. Although there was one good line during the tour bus scene. Maria Canals-Barrera also reprized her role as Mitchie’s mom, but she was hardly even in the film.

Again, I don’t wanna give too much away, but this really is a solid film. Demi gives a very solid performance and the whole team really pulls it together. I give it a 4.5/5, which is among the highest rating I have ever given a DCOM. And what of Camp Rock 3? I think Michael Healy said it best, “Never say never [but] it would be hard to round everybody up.”

Camp Rock 2 Advance Screening Still

But just for fun, I want to share one more though from Senior VP Michael Healy when asked about Disney’s developing talent, he quickly responded “Selena is a fantastic star” then he paused for a moment before continuing, “um, well, Bridgit.” and finally concluding with one final thought, “I wish we had Raven back though.”

Posted on: Thursday, July 15th, 2010 in: Alyson Stoner, Ashley Tisdale, Disney Channel News, Phineas and Ferb

Wow, I didn’t realize Phineas and Ferb had hit 100 episodes! I mean, having mostly half length episodes helps, but it’s still pretty impressive.

Phineas and Ferb

To celebrate, Disney is premiering two special new episodes including guest stars Chaka Khan, Clay Aiken, Seth MacFarlane, and Kevin Smith.

That’s right, Family Guy‘s Seth MacFarlane is gonna be on Phineas and Ferb! Not only are his shows about as Anti-Disney as one can imagine, his own personal history with the company is such that I’m amazed both that he as asked and that he accepted!

The full Disney press release follows.

Then, in “Nerds of a Feather,” an episode guest starring Seth MacFarlane and Kevin Smith, Phineas and Ferb head to the Tri-State area’s annual sci-fi/comic book convention to meet their hero, special effects guru Clive Addison. Their plan gets sidetracked when they’re swept into a duel between fantasy fans and sci-fi geeks. Meanwhile, Candace tries to keep secret that she’s a fan of Ducky Mo-Mo, another convention staple. Across the convention hall, Dr. Doofenshmirtz has taken television executive Jeff McGarland hostage so he can pitch him a show he’s developed, “Doof ‘N’ Puss.” The episode premieres MONDAY, AUGUST 16 (8:00 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney XD and Friday, August 27 on Disney Channel.

Friends for Change is so stupid. Remember the Happy Helpers club from Wizards? That’s what Friends for Change is.

Anyway, we’re coming up on the one year anniversary of the program, and Disney’s issues a press release about the pledges they’ve gotten so far and what they plan to do going forward.

They also just released a new Friends For Change group picture.

Disney Channel Friends for Change

There’s no Miley, no Emily, and no Selena. But they did make sure to include the Disney XD kids. WTF?

Anyway, Disney Press Release Follows:

DISNEY’S FRIENDS FOR CHANGE: PROJECT GREEN KEEPS ON GROWING!
YEAR TWO LAUNCHES WITH NEW VIDEOS FROM DISNEY STARS
AND KID-FRIENDLY WAYS TO SAVE THE PLANET

Nearly 2 Million Promises from Kids to Help the Planet;
2 Million Dollars Donated by Disney to Environmental Charities

May 26, 2010 — Burbank, Calif. — What a difference a year can make, for the planet and for kids! Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green is celebrating its one-year anniversary with the premiere of all-new content. Starting May 30, new on-air messages will begin airing on Disney Channel and Disney XD. They feature nearly 40 Disney stars, including the Jonas Brothers and Demi Lovato, as well as young environmental heroes. The spots will also be featured on Radio Disney and the recently redesigned program website, www.Disney.com/projectgreen.

A Program with Purpose
The aim of this ambitious movement is to empower children to take charge when it comes to the environment, whether it’s their own piece of the planet or a big picture approach.

“With Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green, kids are discovering that helping the planet is easy and fun when they work together and have the right tools,” said Jennifer Anopolsky, senior vice president, Corporate Responsibility, The Walt Disney Company. “In just one year, participation has exceeded our wildest expectations, and we’re building on that momentum by extending Friends for Change to kids in other parts of the world and enhancing the program with fresh new content, local community events, and more grant money that will empower kids with even more ways to get involved.”

Twelve months after the launch of Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green, kids have made nearly two million personal promises to change their daily routines, from unplugging electrical devices when not in use to taking shorter showers.

Kids can also go global with their votes on where to allocate Disney grant money. As a result, one million dollars in grants from Disney are now supporting 25 critical environmental projects around the world.

With the new videos and web content debuting May 30, young people will learn even more ways to recycle, save water, help habitats and reduce energy consumption. They will also have the opportunity to again vote on how another $1 million in grants will support worthy environmental causes throughout the year.

Kids Making a Difference
Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green is setting the pace for environmental initiative. With nearly two million promises, kids have pledged to:

•Cut 70,000 tons of carbon emissions annually

•Reduce/recycle 2.4 million pounds of trash annually

•Save 120 million gallons of water per month

Kids are also learning about the power of their vote. Thanks to their input, Disney has donated more than one million dollars to 25 environmental projects in 15 countries, including:

•$50,000 to the National Resource Council to help fund a forest restoration project in Costa Rica.

•$25,000 to the African Wildlife Foundation to help protect elephant habitats in Zambia.

Kids can turn their own local environmental project into a reality. Disney’s Friends for Change grants, in collaboration with Youth Service America, provide seed money to help get them started. The next call for grant applications opens June 7. To date, these grants have positively influenced nearly 8,000 kids. See http://www.youthserviceamerica.org/grants/programs/friends-for-change for more information.

Kids can also help raise money through iTunes downloads of Disney’s Friends for Change anthems “Send It On” and “Make a Wave.” At last count, nearly 700-thousand dollars, representing 100-percent of download proceeds, have been contributed to the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund. (www.disney.com/conservation)

Full Speed Ahead
Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green is set expand locally and globally in the coming year:

•Local events in cities across the country will inspire kids through hands-on experiences, including tree-planting and clean-ups. The first event kicks off June 6th, World Oceans Day, at the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.

•Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green launched last month in Latin America. Kids have already made more than 200,000 promises! European markets are next in line.

About Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green
Disney’s Friends for Change: Project Green is a multi-platform initiative that empowers kids to help the planet. Through the program, kids learn practical ways to help the environment, get their friends involved, track their collective impact and have the opportunity to help Disney decide how to divide $1 million in annual donations to various environmental causes. Disneymania 7 Promos

Posted on: Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 in: Alyson Stoner, Bridgit Mendler, Debby Ryan, Demi Lovato, Disney Channel News, Selena Gomez, Tiffany Thornton

Finally! It’s been three weeks since we saw the cover of the Disneymania 7 CD but now we finally have 30 second snippets and the full track listing!

And yes, I am more excited about this album than I am the StarStruck Soundtrack. What’s it to ya? :P

Disneymania 7 Track listing:
1. I Just Can’t Wait to Be King Allstar Weekend
2. Trust in Me Selena Gomez
3. Real Gone Honor Society
4. If I Never Knew You Tiffany Thornton
5. Stand Out Mitchel Musso
6. Good Enough KSM
7. Little Wonders Savannah
8. Under the Sea Booboo Stewart
9. When She Loved Me Bridgit Mendler
10. Her Voice Drew Seeley
11. Bella Notte Ruby Summer
12. Part of Your World Anna Maria Perez de Taglé
13. What I’ve Been Looking For Alyson Stoner
14. The Gift of a Friend Demi Lovato
15. Hakuna Matata Debby Ryan

Selena Gomez is always amazing, and she certainly has an interesting song. I’m not quite sure she pulled it off, but I’m anxious to hear the whole track!

I refuse to like Honor Society on principle, but they did a pretty good job on Real Gone. I won’t deny that.

Another strong showing from Tiffany Thornton. We already knew she could sing, but she continues to impress. Any chance of a album? If Demi can cut one while filming and touring, Tiff can too. :)

Wow. I guess Bridgit Mendler can sing. I don’t know why I’m so surprised, but I was very impressed.

Ruby Summer gets a mention because she picked one of my all time favorite Disney songs, from one of my least favorite disney movies. LOL

Alyson Stoner did a nice job on What I’ve Been Looking For, although I don’t know why she did something so contemporary.

Could Demi Lovato not make time to record one new song? The Gift of a Friend does not belong on this album.

Last but not least, they finally got Debby Ryan to sing a real song! Based on that 30 seconds, I wanna say good – not great. Of course, I reserve the right to change my opinion once I hear the whole song.

I don’t know how Tommy2.net does it, but here’s the cover of the new Disneymania 7 CD

Disneymania 7

Looks like they finally got Debby to sing a song! :)

I think Tiffany’s song will be her version of “Someday My Prince Will Come” from Snow White.

Who knows what Selena and Demi’s songs will be, but I’m looking forward to those too.

This self-pic of Alyson Stoner in a bikini was brought to my attention by Chris.

I don’t know anything else about this pic, but judging from her phone, I’m gonna guess it’s at least a couple years old.
