Save The Nine Lives of Chloe King

Save The Nine Lives of Chloe King

ABC Family clearly didn’t learn their lesson and they have AGAIN cancelled a new series after only ten episodes! The ABC Family series The Nine Lives of Chloe King was just getting started and had just begun to build up what was a very large and elaborate story line. We had some major plot elements revealed in the mid-season finale, which unfortunately has become the series finale. We call on all Disney fans to help us in our campaign to get this series renewed. No show deserves to end before it’s potential an even be measured. Our first SDS event is next week on October 9th (for nine lives) and we really need your support!

Learn more about how you can help us ave the show on our Nine Lives section of Save Disney Shows.

It’s time again for our first look at that’s new on Disney channel this month. And it looks like a lot of Wizards! “Wizards vs. Everything” will be the 25th episode of the season and we are clearly nearing the end of the series run. Also new this month are the usual couple episodes of ANT Farm, So Random, Phineas and Ferb, Good Luck Charlie, and Shake it Up. There are also several Jessie episodes, which one would expect seeing as how it’s a new show.

Huge news at Disney Channel this month! Carolina Lightcap, the now former president of Disney Channels Worldwide, has decided to step down from her post. Gary Marsh, Disney Channel’s Chief Creative Officer has now been promoted to president for Disney Channels Worldwide in addition to continuing to serve as Chief Creative Officer. Mr Marsh has long been one of the most receptive and well respected executives at Disney Channel, and his ascension to president of the channel is very good news for the fans in general.

In commenting on Mr. Marsh and his promotion, Anne Sweeney, co-chair, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney/ABC Television Group said, “Gary Marsh has been the driving creative force behind Disney Channels remarkable growth for the past 15 plus years, responsible for some of the most iconic and successful franchises in our history, including ‘Hannah Montana,’ ‘Wizards of Waverly Place,’ ‘High School Musical,’ ‘Phineas and Ferb,’ ‘That’s So Raven,’ ‘Shake It Up’ and many others.” She continued, “The evolution and growth of our Disney Channels business will come from the alignment of this great creative with strong distribution, in all its myriad forms. There is no one better suited to manage this than Gary. He not only understands the zeitgeist of kids’ culture, he helped create it. Our business couldn’t be in better hands.”

Lauren Frost & Margo Harshman are Violet Hour

Long time Disney fans may remember actresses Lauren Frost and Margo Harshman from Disney’s  Even Stevens. Lauren played Ren’s slightly ditsy friend Ruby and Margo played Louis’s friend and eventual love interest Tawny. These two talented girls have since teamed up and formed a band called Violet Hour. Our own Webmaster Greg had the opportunity to see and speak with them at their concert at El Cid in Los Angeles last month.

Kim Possible Fan Convention 2012 Update

Kim Possible Fan Convention 2012

Last month we brought you a message from the leaders of the Kim Possible Fan Convention project. This month, we just wanted to give you a few important updates regarding the status of the project.

Kimvention 2012 is the Kim Possible Fan Convention happening the weekend on June 8-10 in Southern CA. We’re finalizing the venue and when we do, we’ll announce the location.

It’s a fan convention to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 21st Century’s first great heroine, and the team that brought her to the screen. We are working to put together a lineup of panels and events to entertain and maybe inform some fans about how a show like KP gets put together, all the care taken by people who truly are plying a craft.

There’s lots more news to come, so go ahead and like us, then watch for updates! Thanks!

May Disney Channel Highlights

The May Disney schedule looks quite bizarre There are no new episodes for anything scheduled for the second half of the month. Are they just not ready to announce their plans that far in advance? If not, is there any particular reason? At SDS we’re puzzled, but we will find out in time.

This month will include the final episode of The Suite Life on Deck and the first episode of Disney’s new series ANT Farm.

Disney’s new man at ABC Family

Disney's new man at ABC Family

Disney’s new plan for ABC Family channel includes a new president for the network, Michael G. Riley. In this new article and interview, he discusses the changes at the channel and their plans gong forward.

Mr. Riley was deeply involved with the casting and scheduling of the new shows and will start wooing advertisers this week in New York. In addition to “The Nine Lives of Chloe King,” the new dramas Mr. Riley will be promoting this week include “Switched at Birth,” the story of two teenage girls who were mixed up as newborns. “The Lying Game,” meantime, is a mystery about twin sisters.

The goal for “The Great State of Georgia,” in which Raven-Symoné stars as an aspiring actress with a larger-than-life personality, is to create a comedy block on Wednesday nights. It will be paired with “Melissa & Joey,” a successful returning series starring Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence.

Hellcats

A lot of our readers no doubt remember Aly Michalka from Phil of the Future and Ashley Tisdale from The Suite Life and High School Musical. And of course, they have a new series together on the CW network called Hellcats. It’s not a Disney show, but given it’s Disney connections, I’m assuming many of you may be interested. What do you think? Article: ABC Family Spins Gold in Dramas

Posted on: Tuesday, April 12th, 2011 in: 10 Things I Hate About You, Disney Channel News, Lucy Hale, Make It or Break It, Pretty Little Liars, Save Disney Shows

This is a very interesting article about the new president of Disney’s ABC Family channel, Michael G. Riley, and the new shows he has been bringing to the channel and what he has in store for the coming months. From the promos that have started airing, I have to say that “The Nine Lives of Chloe King” looks like it could be a pretty good show. They also have a new project in the works staring Raven (from “That’s So Raven”).

Michael G. Riley

The full article follows:

BURBANK, Calif. — If Michael G. Riley, the new president of ABC Family, comes across as a bit nervous these days, cut him some slack. Only seven months ago he was working in radio. Now he’s about to lead a major expansion of one of television’s hottest brands.

ABC Family, the Walt Disney Company’s cable channel aimed at older teenagers and young adults, plans to announce on Monday that it will add a third night of original programming each week. The channel will also start introducing original series year-round; until now it has almost exclusively introduced new programs in June.

To help stock its expanding schedule, ABC Family has ordered three new scripted dramas, including “The Nine Lives of Chloe King,” about a girl who discovers she has special powers and is being hunted by an assassin. (Dan Berendsen, the force behind “Hannah Montana: The Movie” and several hit Disney Channel movies, is an executive producer.) A fourth new show will be a half-hour comedy starring Raven-Symoné of “That’s So Raven” fame.

“We now have some beachfront television property in shows like ‘Pretty Little Liars,’ but there is so much more opportunity,” Mr. Riley said. “I’m focused on one thing, which is how are we keeping our foot on the accelerator.”

The recent success of ABC Family has been nothing short of stunning. When Disney bought the channel in 2001 for a hefty $5.3 billion from the News Corporation and the media investor Haim Saban, it planned to show reruns from its broadcast network, ABC. But ratings plummeted without fresh programming.

The cable channel, founded as the Family Channel by the evangelist Pat Robertson, also had a contractual obligation to retain the world “family” in its name and run Mr. Robertson’s “700 Club” talk show in perpetuity — not exactly conducive to creating a hip teenage TV brand.

Undeterred, Disney in 2004 hired Paul Lee, a former British Broadcasting Corporation executive, to run ABC Family, giving him marching orders to focus on the so-called millennial generation. Mr. Lee delivered a string of hits, including “The Secret Life of the American Teenager,” a drama that stirred controversy by concentrating on a pregnant 15 year old.

With the arrival in 2010 of “Pretty Little Liars,” a mystery centered on four best friends that became an immediate ratings success, ABC Family became a bona fide smash itself. It is now one of cable’s top 10 networks among adults 18 to 49.

ABC Family attracted an average of 580,000 viewers ages 12 to 34, its target demographic, in prime time 2010, a 49 percent increase from 2005. The channel’s primary competitor, the CW, has struggled to find new hits during this time — it passed on “The Secret Life of the American Teenager” — and is seeking a new president.

“ABC Family has been riding a train of increasing success,” said Kris Magel, a senior vice president at Initiative, a media-buying agency. “Advertisers value this channel. It delivers all the buzz and great ratings, with limited controversy.”

Mr. Riley, 41, took over ABC Family in September after Mr. Lee was promoted to run the entertainment division of ABC. Overflowing with boyish charm — that is, when not in the presence of two Disney public relations executives, as he was during a recent interview here — Mr. Riley had been running Radio Disney, a string of 37 stations, for two years.

His hiring puzzled Hollywood — radio? — but Mr. Riley had previous television experience, albeit not on the creative side. From 1997 to 2008 he worked for Turner Broadcasting System in Europe, with responsibilities like drafting brand strategy for channels like Cartoon Network and TNT. Mr. Riley has an M.B.A. from the London Business School.

Mr. Riley, who is Canadian, quickly impressed Disney executives by throwing himself into learning and running the radio operation even though he wasn’t overly excited by the medium. (When Rich Ross, now chairman of Walt Disney Studios, recruited him for the radio job, Mr. Riley made it clear he wanted a future in television.) His accomplishments at Radio Disney included expanding online efforts, integrating its programming more heavily with that of Disney Channel and greatly improving morale.

“Michael has a great understanding of brands and their importance in an ever-fragmenting media landscape,” said Anne Sweeney, president of the Disney/ABC Television Group.

Because of the long gestation period for television shows, Mr. Riley has only begun to make his presence felt at ABC Family; all of the new series, for instance, were already in development at the channel when he arrived. He also has a strong lieutenant in Kate Juergens, executive vice president for original series programming and development.

But Mr.

“We love the authenticity of all of these shows, all of which have our hallmarks of heart, humor and optimism,” Mr. Riley said.

Mean Girls 2 Promotional Stills

Posted on: Thursday, December 23rd, 2010 in: ABC Family Shows, Jennifer Stone, Maiara Walsh, Meaghan Martin, Nicole Anderson

I am quite excited for Mean Girls 2 and will probably be severely disappointed when it does finally air, but for now I’ll stay excited. :)

Mean Girls 2 Promotional Stills

The new tale follows new high school student, Jo (Martin), who agrees to befriend an outcast, Abby (Stone), at the urging of Abby’s wealthy father in exchange for paying all of Jo’s costs for the college of her dreams.

Jo and Abby team up to take on the school’s “mean girls,” the Plastics. The story becomes a high stakes battle of loyalty that ultimately comes to a head when one of our heroines finds out that her friendship has been bought and paid for.

Mean Girls 2 premieres Sunday, January 23rd @ 8PM ET/PT on ABC Family.

Mean Girls 2 Promotional Stills

I’m quite fond of Meaghan Martin, obviously. Although I could care less about Jennifer Stone. LOL

Mean Girls 2 Promotional Stills

The new plastics look like a great group too. I <3 Nicole Anderson, and Maiara Walsh ain’t half bad either.
