I’m puzzled by what look she/they are going for?

I’m disgusted with the terrible grammar employed in her post. Why is no one bothered? In what way is this person supposed to be a role-model for children?
Don’t get me wrong, Selena Gomez is highly attractive. I completely identify with the school of thought that values people in her position, assuming it’s exclusively as sex icons, but that’s not her niche in the market – at least not the niche it’s sold to be. If we are actually seeking young individuals to serve as role-models for American youth, we should be embaressed by this kind of expression of, what in my opinion equates to, an apparent gross ignorance to something as simple as speaking one’s first language.
Now, this isn’t some kind of perfectionist perspective. People can and will make mistakes. But for the love of God, if we’re going to herald her a talented actress, I don’t believe it’s a particularly long stretch to expect her to be a reasonably intelligent human being.
That post, regardless of the forum, is indicative of someone who is either too uneducated to be considered a role-model or too lazy to be successful. We, as the consumers that bank-roll this entire operation, need to take a pretty significant look at what this kind of retarded grammar means to us – is this the kind of thing that we’re willing to accept from “upstanding” Americans or are we going to begin to demand a slightly higher standard of, if intelligence is impossible, at least responsibility?

J, that would be “sexy secretary.”
Mike, you really consider that to be “terrible” grammar? She’s speaking in full sentances, with properly placed commas and periods.
She’s missing the word “On” before “June 22nd” and “No titled” should have been “Not titled” but that’s just a typo.
I think the double periods “..” where my fault.

Webmaster Greg,
In my experience visiting this website, it seems quite obvious that you’re a particularly smart individual, whether or not you play that quality to it’s full advantage. Regardless, you’re making quite a stretch of things to perceive those two errors as the only problems within her post.
And eitherway, mistakes are inevitable, certainly, we all make them. But you especially understand the relavence these icons take in the lives of their fans – I don’t see how their exhibition of, what is undeniably, an understanding of grammar below their age-group should be acceptable.
I mean, you think about professional journalists writing for all calibur of news sources – grammar is relavent as a reference to credibility. Yes, there are mistakes everywhere, but I don’t think we need to imagine very hard when we envision a world where Selena Gomez, or her descendants, are significantly more important to people than New York Times journalists.
Selena Gomez has her place. I’m not trying to completely demean the girl’s place socially, I just believe that it’s unfortunate that, for someone who has such an acute and undoubtedly particular marketing crew, they have no problem letting her write her own make-shift press releases. I have no problem with Selena as an example to children throughouth the U.S. and beyond, I just hope to hell that there are ADULTS that understand the commitment that goes along with that market-share.

Mike,
Perhaps it’s just that I’m used to PEoople whooo thype Lyk tHis. And trust me when I say I see a lot of that.
I do care about grammar. The rules exist for a reason, to clarify and make meanings of written words easier to decipher. And because that’s it’s purpose, that’s the standard I use. I know understood exactly what Selena was saying and that’s all that matters to me.
You also mentioned other errors (in general) that I apparently overlooked. Care to point some out?

I’ve given some examples below, but I’m not to trying to throw this girl under the bus for making mistakes. All I’m trying to express is a frustration for this kind of lax treatment towards education. It’s important that this person maintain a standard that her fans can aspire to, not a standard that embaresses our youth whether they realize it or not.
Again, I’m not trying to say that Selena is the problem. She’s a kid, too. I’m just concerned that the people managing this career don’t have a perspective apt to respect it’s scope.
I can only imagine the things you sift through – but that certainly doesn’t make it ideal. I have no doubt, whatsoever, that there is WAY worse, and every expressed failure of our education system is something to mind, but we simply cannot start giving our celebrities a free pass because it catches on amongst people who don’t know better – which is probably the majority of people who keep up with Selena’s posts (irony noted). It isn’t an issue of “stupidity” or whatever else people want to call it, in this case, it represents a case of gross negligence on the part of the people who care for her image and the incredibly real, as you know far better than I, effects that has on her viewers.
“I have stopped in and said Hello to you all”
- Hello does not need to be capitalized -
“I have a bunch of updates but, one is a little more exciting then the rest at the moment.”
- The comma after “but” is unnecessary -
“As I am sure you have seen below D.O.L. facebook page has been launched!!!!”
- Assuming D.O.L. is a noun, it should require an article –
“I also have some news about the second album.. June 18th premiere of ‘Round and Round’ the first single of 2nd album will premiere on Radio Disney.”
- The whole issue going on with “June 18th premiere of ‘Round and Round’ ” -

I don’t know what you Yanks are going on about proper grammer, when you havenot spoken or written real English in over 200 years

You do know this was taken from Facebook right? Okay, therefore it’s not official in the sense of Disney releasing a statement.
I believe Selena did oversee this and posted the message. Yes her fans are youths, mostly, and they don’t care bout grammar. Plus people using Facebook to read dirt or info or even Selena’s posts already assume not perfect spelling and grammar and faults. No one would complain about mistakes because everyone knows it’s from Facebook which is inherently imperfect so we can not expect perfection.
As Greg said everyone reading that post understood what she said and got the message which is the whole point of having a Facebook and posting messages on there.
Now if this was a release from Disney then fine bicker, grip bout it but bits not it’s Facebook and nobody picks at grammar issues. The same goes for txt and Twitter.

I’m so used to teenagers texting languages that I can understand nearly anything they write now. So trust me, the grammar here isn’t the news, it’s that she’s releasing her 2nd album (Which I can’t wait for by the way).
(Translated in to celphone txt language.)
Me so usd 2 teenagrs txtng languge dat I cn undrstnd nirly anytin dey r8t nw. So trst me, dat gramr hir isnt d nws, its dat shes releasn hr 2nd album. (wc I cnt 8 4 btw).

“Yes her fans are youths, mostly, and they don’t care bout grammar. Plus people using Facebook to read dirt or info or even Selena’s posts already assume not perfect spelling and grammar and faults.”
That’s exactly my point, though. That’s the whole problem. I’ll just reiterate one thing I said from my last post:
“All I’m trying to express is a frustration for this kind of lax treatment towards education. It’s important that this person maintain a standard that her fans can aspire to, not a standard that embaresses our youth whether they realize it or not.
Again, I’m not trying to say that Selena is the problem. She’s a kid, too. I’m just concerned that the people managing this career don’t have a perspective apt to respect it’s scope.”

As much as it’s right but these values are already intrenched and just accepted by everyone. In fact taking time to write these posts expended more energy than anyone worrying bout Selena’s proper or improperness.

Mike,
You have a point. Those where all errors that I missed.
But I don’t think she’s setting a bad example. Mostly because I don’t think most people (kids & adults) would even notice those errors.
June 3rd, 2010 at 12:13 am
And if by chance they notice they’re not gonna care and certainly not gonna call her out on it either.
June 24th, 2010 at 10:13 pm
Lord! No one gives a darn toot about her grammar! As long as I know what she is saying, it really doesnt matter. Considering you can read it, dont bring it up. It has nothing to do with her being a bad role model and all that crap. Kids learn their grammar at school, not from celeberties. Correct me for my spelling errors here but nowadays, people dont give a hoot about grammar (on the internet at least) We all could read it soooo, its not a big deal! I just wanted to see the update not have a grammar fight. Holy cheese and rice people.
