It’s only been a couple days since the last Miley photo scandal and she’s already stirring up more controversy!
The actress/singer posed for celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz for the the magazine’s new issue (which hits stands nationwide on May 6, although the article and a number of photos from the shoot — including ones with Cyrus wearing just pants and a blanket — are available on Vanity Fair’s Web site). According to USA Today, the caption alongside the photo in the magazine reads, “Disney’s ‘Hannah Montana’ star tells VF, ‘I think it’s really artsy. It wasn’t in a skanky way. Annie took, like, a beautiful shot, and I thought that was really cool. That’s what she wanted me to do, and you can’t say no to Annie. She’s so cute. She gets this puppy-dog look and you’re like, “OK.” ‘ ”
In the caption accompanying the photo on Vanity Fair’s Web site, when asked if she or Disney were nervous about the shot, Cyrus said, “No, I mean, I had a big blanket on. And I thought, This looks pretty, and really natural.”

The Disney Response to this is that Miley was manipulated.
A Disney Channel spokesperson adds: “Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines.”

Of course, if anyone’s guilty of manipulating Miley to make money, it’s clearly Disney by a mile. But that’s another issue entirely. Personally, I think the whole issue has been blown way out of proportion. Yeah, she’s showing some skin but this photo is clearly meant to be artistic, very much unlike last week’s photos. And i think the only reason this photo is news to begin with is because of last week’s photos. I think Sean Stubblefield said it best:
What is truly outrageous is that anyone would be offended by the beautifully artistic image in question. I’ve seen the pic, and it is very tastefully–and chastefully– composed. And totally not topless. Not even close!
Her chest and abdomen are completely covered by a sheet, revealing not even a hint of her breasts, nor so much as a belly button. Although there is a mild “Geisha” impression suggested in the coloring, there is nothing overtly or gratuitously sexual about the disputed photo. This is no more risqué than if she were wearing a beach towel.
